If Margarito could KO Martinez what will Kelly do?

I don't think KP's "overlooking" anything, but the point is that there's absolutely no precedent for a Martinez KO here. (Quintana and Margarito hurt PW as well, don't forget.)

It just seems to me that all the people who accuse KP of being "one-dimensional" have probably just seen the two Taylor fights and the Hopkins fight. Taylor was vulnerable to the jab and straight right above all else, and the fight took pace mostly on the outside, so it's no surprise that the 1-2 was Pavlik's bread and butter. And, for obvious reasons, Hopkins was hardly a showcase of his boxing ability. I guess that's the source of the illusion. Against other fighters, Pavlik can throw about every punch in the book with a high degree of competency and power.

We all know that Pavlik's style is orthodox and upright, and short of failing to "bend the knees a little more" like Bernard said, I can't see how that equates to being a robot. If it does, then being a robot's hardly a bad thing!

True -- and when I said Martinez won't get any respect from Pavlik, I based that on the fact that Zuniga, Miranda, Taylor, and others got no respect. They could not keep Kelly from coming forward throwing hard shots with both hands. Martinez is a smaller man who does not hit nearly as hard as those guys.

One thing that surprises me is all the talk about speed, as if Williams and Martinez are both lightning fast. I don't think either one is any faster than JT was at 160.

I would expect a Pavlik/Martinez fight to look a lot like the first Pavlik/Taylor fight with less drama and fewer fireworks. Sergio has a lot of the same bad habits JT has always had, he's no faster, and he has less than stellar stamina.

Excellent remark regarding the handspeed of Martinez vis a vis Taylor. I would submit, however, that Martinez probably moves (footwork) better than Taylor.

I don't think that Martinez moves any better than JT did in the 2nd fight with Pav.

One of the biggest myths in boxing is that all you have to do to beat KP is move away from the right hand. KP has a tricky and versatile left hand. When guys move to their own right, they run right into a left hook, over and over and over. The ony person who did not fall prey to that was BHop, and his footwork was something only a handful of fighters in history could emulate.
