Its a given that he tried to put SOMETHING in his handwrap before the fight. The debate is about what it actually was. Thats my take on it anyway..hence the 1 year ban for something illegal, but no other charges because there hasnt been a verdict on how dangerous it could have been.

IF Margarito didn't cheat, he woodn't have been banned for a year (at least). But he did, thus the ban. Most people realize this. Margarito doesn't have anywhere near the support he did just a couple months ago.

I understand why some people would defend Marg. As of now nobody knows exactly what he was loading his gloves with.

Having plaster of paris or a substance of that matter is a bigger offense than just having extra padding.

The extra padding (if that is all he had) could have easily been to protect his knuckles, where as the plaster is clearly there to get an edge and hurt his opponents.

Remember the argument made by people? Trinidad had extra gauze not plaster of paris etc.....

The media has been big on constantly stating "plaster like substance" without having real evidence, all we have is word of mouth, which is not very dependable. Word of mouth that supports boths sides. Mosley and others have stated they looked like regular pads.

So I'll just wait until the results comeback.

Margarito has clearly cheated, and his trainer has admitted to loading his gloves. There is no doubt about this. None whatsoever. A one year suspension is a light sentence for such a crime.

In California, revoked the license for 1 year was the strictest punishment they could hand out. It isn't automatic that he will get his license back after 1 year, that's just the earliest that he can apply for reinstatement.

Look at it this way, if Margarito (a fighter given to avoiding rematches with the men that have spanked him) was "loading" for a 37 year-old smaller fighter, he was almost certainly loading for younger, like-sized and powerful welterweights before Mosley came along. The question is how far back do we go?

    I'm guessing quite a ways.

Getting back to the banning, Tony was caught, literally red-handed. I believe he should be banned beyond what he has been given thus far - the 0ne year minimum.

If he fights in Mexico during that period for senior Blind-Eye, I truly hope the hoop him for life.

Loading wraps is a very serious thing. Potentially, we are dealing with lives and personal well-being, and the cost doesn't always readily show itself.

He did cheat. No doubt. But we don't know yet if it was plaster or anything of that level of seriousness.

Other fighters have been caught, Mosley and Vargas with the steroids, Trinidad with the loaded gloves ("extra gauze") but to me plaster is on another level. Specially if we remember Panama Lewis/Resto and Collins.

And if I do recall, nobody made such a big deal about the afromentioned fighters. :deal

    So lets be fair.

Something else to think about here: If Margarito has been doing this for a while, not just against Mosley, why haven't any of the boxing commissions caught him. Margarito's past 4 fights have been in Nevada, California, New York, and New Jersey. Obviously the California guys were asleep at the hand wrapping, were these other state commissions just as negligent??
