to a degree, yes, since its the last margarito actually looked impressive in a fight...it took margarito out of his prime for sure...pacquiao however finished him as a fighter

The eye isn't why Maragarito lost. Its because he's a slow plodding face first boxing bum. In the first fight Cotto was whooping his ass easily early on and unfortunately he decided to stop boxing and start trading and his team wasn't getting him back on track.

With or without the eye damage this fight would have been a Cotto victory.

If you've got the boxing ability and the right gameplan then a match with Margarito is about as threatening as a sparring session.

I don't get how people keep forgetting that Margarito had bricks in his gloves in the first Cotto fight.
The reason why Margarito isn't as good as he used to be is he isn't able to cheat anymore.
Past his prime? the guy was never any good to begin with.

    God you people...

Cotto was a one eyed fighter early on against Clottey and pulled out a win!!!
Margaret has won maybe one to two rounds in three fights since getting popped...mind you he not only lost his fights but got starched!!!

His "Granite Chin" (rocks for brains) has allowed him to stay in front of his opponents. His loaded wraps enabled him to damage his opponents.

He was exposed as a B level fighter who took the low road!!!

After 86 shots to the eye, why wouldnt it be damaged?...previous injury or not. Miguel was in great shape that night...Had the fight continued, Margo would have gotten his wish to die in the ring.

I've watched that first fight countless times, and at first I was impressed with how Cheato was able to take a beating for so long and come out on top in the end. You'd think "My God! How do you stop a guy like that?" he took some shots, clearly couldn't outbox Cotto. Once he was caught, it didn't take much to watch once more and see that his punches would have had a very different effect late in that fight without the plaster. And so on a revisit, his previous fights showed the same pattern. In the end, as far as money goes, he got more than he deserved, he should have not made one cent unless he won the fight and proved it wasn't a tainted victory. Punishment wise, he got exactly what he deserved, what he was told he would get, hit over and over again in the right eye. As previous posters stated, he doesn't win a fight against Cotto or anyone else without his plaster. To answer the original question, bad eye or not, without plaster, he gets starched by Cotto in the rematch. No doubt about it.

M looked totally finished to me too, in later rounds.

As for the question, W/O the eye injury, I say Cotto by decision, easily. He was in so much better shape and mentally fired up.

Lol at the plaster remarks... One eyed Margarito still had busted Cottos face to pieces... Very easy to hit an eye 100 times when that eye was closed after the second round.. The same people bullshitting now, were the same ones after Marg stole Cottos heart in Their first fight... Face it Marg best Cotto fair and square, now Cotto has returned the favor.. But please don't act like Marg didn't carry any power in that second fight..

he got his arse kicked. Cotto probably would have cracked his chin before 12th and forced a ref stoppage.
