If Margo moved up in weight to 154 and 160, would his style help him or hurt him?

Let's say he becomes the Undisputed Welterweight Champion; if he moves up to Junior Middleweight or Middleweight and fights the same style of fighting against the likes Kelly Pavlik, Arthur Abraham, and Felix Sturm, does he win or get KTFO? Thoughts on this.

If he fights Kelly Pavlik at middleweight, then I say Pavlik has a very good chance in knocking Margarito out. Pavlik is much more powerful then the welterweights.

Margarito has fought at 154 in the past and there isn't any one in the division right now that would give him any real trouble, but he should most definitely stay away from the middleweights.

He's got a shot at unifying 154 if he keeps winning. Most top 10 including Felix Sturm would clearly win. Now or in 5 years.

He'd do pretty good at 154. Santos is arguably the number 2 guy there behind Dzinziruk, and neither guy would stop Margarito. Win possibly but not walk over him.

Middleweight is a home of some much bigger animals though. Pavlik and Abraham would both be favored to win by knockout.

Why should Margo go anywhere? The competition at 147 is much better than the competition at 154. What's he gonna do; move up and ass **** The Latin Fake?

At 160 his style gets him seriously hurt against Pavlik.

Yep, he sure did, but that was at 154 and a long time ago.

All I am going to say is that Santos is waiting. Santos actually hurt him with a overhand left I believe. 154 could make a difference.

Good question, I was thinking about this today as a possible fight with Hoya might ensue. If it does go through (not sure if Hoya will have the balls after seeing that performance) he might want the fight at 154. This should be fair as Marg is a very big welterweight anyway and is the same height and build as Oscar. But I don't know if Marg would be able to push his man around at that weight as he did Cotto. I don't really see it happening with Hoya too much as there will be a man his size hitting back. Not trying to diminish from Marg's performance at all nor am I talking **** about Hoya but the shock last night came to me from seeing a fighter I always considered very strong in Cotto look overwhelmed by the strength of an opponent.

Kind of like Hatton, Margo's style will get incrementally less effective as he moves up since so much of his game is based on physically smothering and wearing down his opposition. 154 is in such a state that he could still have some success (the Santos fight was still winnable for him before the cut stoppage), but he doesn't project well to middleweight at all, really.
