IF Marquez DOES catch Floyd flush, does he have the power to KO PBF?

Marquez has superb punching power at 135.
(but is untested at 140 or over because he has never fought there)

Mayweather's chin has never let him down.
(but is relatively untested at 140 and over because he has fought mediocre opposition there)

Leaving aside the very real possibility that Mayweather may turn in a virtuoso defensive display and avoid being hit flush all night, if Marquez does manage at some point to connect with a full-blooded shot to the chin or the head, does he have the firepower to knock out or even just knock down Floyd?

    What do you think? :bbb

He would not get KO'd by any ONE shot by Marquez. However, Marquez does have power and he stopped guys that are pretty sturdy. It would take a hell of a counter uppercut to do it.

Juan Manuel Marquez has superb power as a Lightweight, but I don't envision him landing enough with his right hand to get the job done against a fighter of Floyd Mayweather Jr's quality.

Floyd has taken great shots from Zab Judah, Jose Luis Castillo, among others, and has only been seriously buzzed a small amount of times during a fairly long career. He has the defensive capabilities, as he's proved in the past, to avoid as manny flush shots as possible, and has already proved he can a good shot when he needs too.

If I was a betting man, I would bet the UD for Floyd.

Marquez will fight like a Mexican. And make Floyd back the F up and run..

It's a good post mate, and I do agree. But I'm not asking for a prediction here, just your opinion on the specific question:

If Marquez does manage to land a full-blooded shot right on the button, does he have the power to send Mayweather to the canvas and into serious trouble?

Or do you not think he will carry that sort of power, and that Floyd will be able to absorb his best single-shot?

It would be a strategic mistake if he does, in my estimation.

Marquez is most effective when fighting on the backfoot, and so is Floyd Mayweather Jr. He'll want to try and draw mistakes from an offensive Floyd if he plans on winning the fight. I don't think he can beat Floyd by pressing the action.

Floyd would have to be hit with a counter he completely didn't see coming.

But bottom line, he's in the boat Roy was in a few years ago. We don't really know how his chin will hold up in a truly back and forth fight. The shots he took off of Oscar were a good sign though.

Simply put no, Jmm can punch and i thinl he'll be hitting even harder with the added weight. Floyd has a great chin though, he has taken his share of hard shots from fighters who hit Harder than Juan(Judah, Castillo, Dlh ).

Floyd took a flush left hook from Oscar, bouncing off the ropes. He smiled. I doubt a lightweight fighting for the first time at that weight, will carry the same power, Floyd fet by a 154lber.

    Sorry DINAMITA.

Boxing has produced an array of surprises already this year, but I would be very surprised if I saw Mayweather Jr hit the canvas on the end of a right hand from Marquez. This is no disrespect to Juan's punching ability, we have already seen he can punch as a Lightweight, but this next fight is up at 145-147lb. There is no evidence to suggest he has lights out power as a Welterweight, and it took a number of shots to get Diaz and Casamayor out of there down at 135lb.

Floyd Mayweather Jr should be able to absorb a number of flush right hands from Juan Manuel Marquez is he has too. He took shots from Oscar up at 154lb, and that alone would indicate that he has a very good beard. It doesn't usually get tested due to a combination of his sublime defensive ability, and it has to be said, sometimes the calibre of his opposition don't have the capabilities to land in the first place (Baldomir, Brussells, etc).

My answer is no. I don't believe one right hand will get that sort of reaction. It will get respect, but I don't envision Floyd being buzzed and certainly not going down.

I have been accustomed to being wrong lately, though.

I'll be happy if Marquez can off balance Mayweather even for once.

Ask Oscar, Judah, and N'dou about that.
