He will stick around at welter or light welter for a couple of big payday fights before retiring watch

So far majority wants him to continue fighting even if he loses early. Surprisingly, those who want him to retire are known floyd fans. Can someone explain why the floyd fans are in favor of him retiring while the others are ok with JMM to continue to fight?

I think he should retire. There's nothing else to proof after this fight.

It just means he has to finally accept that he's never getting an official win over Manny Pacquiao.

Unless he takes a protracted ruining of a beating, he can still compete more than adequately at lightweight for another year or two.

How about prove that he can still fight at the lower weights?

So far no one is saying that Marquez is too old hence needs to retire. I expect this reasoning after the fight.

Maybe fight Khan at 140 before retiring.

If he can get back to lightweight, he's still champion no-one has beaten there. If anyone in that division wants to call themself the best, they have to beat him if he's available. He'll be in a similar situation to Hatton after the Mayweather fight, only he's alot older, but still fighting at a high level none-the-less. However playing with his weight at such an advanced fighting age could accelerate his deterioration, similar to Roy when he went up to heavy and came back down and looked a shell of the guy who smashed Ruiz. We'll just have to wait and see how it pans out.

Maybe not immediately, but he is getting up there in age. Maybe one or two more legacy fights, then call it a day. The man deserves to enjoy the fruits of his labors.
