If Marquez never fights Pacquiao again, will that damage Marquez's rep?

    Discuss.

We see many different people claim that Pacquiao had the common decency of giving Marquez rematches in the past when he "beat Marquez" and now that Marquez finally wins, he is a wussy for refusing to return the favour.

Marquez has stated on multiple occasions that he wants to keep the moment and will never fight Pacquiao again and he is extremely adamant about this.

    Do you guys think

    1. A 5th fight needs to occur
    2. Will Marquez's rep be damaged if he retires without giving Pacquiao the satisfaction of revenge?

It will not damage his legacy. Big difference between a controversial points win and a KO when people look back... Should marquez give pacman a rematch... Yeah I think so.

    nope.

they fought 4 times. but it leaves a bad taste in the mouth pac not getting his chance to redeem himself.

jmm has pac's number. the fight will always be 50/50, at any weight class.

Even though Marquez already fought him 4 times and is 40 years old?

I think Marquez should simply hang them up. He's had a wonderful career and won the rivalry.

Pac didn't "let him try so many times"...pac never had a clear victory so he was trying to prove himself as the better fighter (which he is in the grand scheme of things, but head to head JMM is better IMO).

Can no thread that mentions Pacman not be used as a means to attack Floyd or vice versa...

So annoying. Nothing to do with mayweather this topic.

What was the last rivalry between elite fighters to have 4 fights?

    V is not needed.

    shhh. topic is agenda driven.

ts wants an answer that will make floyd's ducking of pac seems ok, not going to damage floyd's career.

what he didnt realize marquez already fought pac 4 times.

marquez not fighting pac FOR THE 5TH TIME is nowhere near the same as floyd ducking his first fight with pac.

Damage his rep as a boxer, nope.
SRL has done it and he is still widely considered as P4P ATG top 3.

Damage his rep as a supposed gentleman, yes.

Anybody who will view boxers' careers beyond for successes or failures in the ring will already likely view JMM's rep as lesser due to his seeming "complaining" or disagreeing with every decision he's ever lost (spare for the Floyd fight).

atgs are largely judged according to the fights that mattered.

prime for prime, atg's vs. another.

    the rest are just bonus.

it only becomes damaging when the guy is already missing the key fights that mattered.

It was said a zillion times (while promoting the last fight) that THIS ONE, the 4th, would DEFINITELY, b the last fight. Even pacquiao, Roach and their team emphasized it while saying pac would get a ko this time. It didn't happened. Now they and his fans, as sore losers, want to put an asterik and imply it would b the last fight but only if pacquiaoo won.... Weird ppl.
