IF Martinez wants to leave behind a legacy in his boxing career what must he do?

I think for now he needs to unify the Middleweight titles. Although there are no big names at present, they are still tough fights. I like the look of Golovkin, Pirog and N'Jikam, while Sturm is probably the best known of the reigning champs so may be the place to start.

In 6 months to a years time there is also potentialy a fight against the likes of Erislandy Lara and James Kirkland. Which if given enough time to build could be massive fights.

 

If he knocked Mayweather out cold he would instantly become one of the most loved fighters of all time!

 

He should stay exactly where he is. I doubt he's big enough to compete with the very best super middleweights and don't see any reason why he should chase after them. If a Pac or a Mayweather wanted to move up and face him...great, otherwise just keep defending your title at 160 and build as best a legacy that way as you can.

This craving for fighters to jump divisions and become multiple weight champions cuts no ice with me. Hagler never did it, neither did Monzon and a **** load more great fighters. You don't have to win belts in different weight classes to create a legacy. Hopefully for Martinez' sake he can get the best fights available at middle before he eventually hangs them up. Time isn't on his side though, admittedly.

 

To be fair anyone who takes mayweathers 0 (no matter how old he is) is gonna have a superb win on their record. if this fight comes of and Martinez wins he can leave a legacy by beating some of the upcoming guys at middles such as Golovkin, Pirog, NJikam, Lemieux mixed with some of the guys from 168 such as Ward, Bute, Froch etc.

You can only fight whose available and considering he only had his coming out party at the age of 35 i think 4-5 wins from the above would leave a good enough legacy for Martinez

 

Mayweather will not be considered "old" if Martinez beats him. In terms of being prime physically, the two are even.

 

How badly i want to see a Martinez Pac/Mayweather fight now I just doubt either would take it. It really would be a match for the ages could end up being a Maxim Robinson situation though just that one step too far.

 

this **** them they will just strip him.his biggest problem is there are no #1 contender as the contenders seem to dislike the idea of fighting each other

 

Sergio is 36! Surely with his style and defense he can't go on much longer can he?
