If Mathyse beats Morales for the WBC, Does Khan fight him next?

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by haye_the_joke, Aug 3, 2011.

  1. Khan said he will be ringside for this fight, I know he will fight Morales if he wins, but is Mathysse wins do you see khan fighting him? Or do you think he will fight Peterson instead, and would you consider this a :duck move" by Khan?

No he wont, and yes it would be a duck.

I wonder how many people will charge in screaming that Peterson is a "bigger draw"??:deal

He said on Sky Sports that he'd either fight Peterson or the winner of Morales-Barrios (obviously before Matthysse stepped in).

He couldn't be criticised for either choice - he'd be fighting a mandatory or unifying another title. Roach has already said there's better fights out there than Morales but a win over a guy like Matthysse would make him a viable choice.

I think he's shown that he's willing to fight pretty much anyone - you don't fight Maidana or try so hard to make a Bradley fight, only to run from Matthysse.

I guess he would fight him.
Matthysse is stylewise one of the biggest threats left in the division, but I pick Khan to win 3 out of 4.

Never say Never lol. Khan said Peterson rejected his offer to fight him 6 months ago. I would say he would fight the winner of WBC fight... either Eric or Matt.

I can see why he'd be reluctant to face Matt, but considering his desire to get hold of the WBC belt, I'd like to think he would take the opportunity to fight for it regardless of whether it's Matt or Morales. Beating Matt for the WBC belt does far more for his legacy than beating a Morales coming off a win over Barrios.

Which brings me onto another interesting question - if Morales beats Matt, would he be considered a legit opponent for Khan? Because considering how well he handled Maidana, we shouldn't be too quick to rule out his chances against Matthysse.

Khan has options, I think he wont fight maidana since he already beaten him, so if he beats guerrero he wont be chosen.
It will be either guerrero or morales/matthysse, maybe if maidana and matthysse both win they will be matched together and golden boy will put khan in with peterson who is easier for him and not as much a risk to the potential floyd/khan fight in 2012 as the other 2.
I think khan is hoping for Morales though.

yes, morales will have beaten matthysse and had a fight that could easily have gone his way vs maidana, 2 fighters that are in the top 5 of the division at the moment in my opinion. So he would be a legit beltholder and therefore a legit opponent, this is way different than fighting barrios who doesnt deserve it, matthysse deserves his titleshot by getting robbed 2 times. Khan beats morales though and it wont be a pretty sight to see. I just hope morales wins and khan goes for guerrero/maidana or even bradley somehow instead.

First of all Matthyse WILL beat Morales. Second Khan WILL fight him in december and put on a clinic.

I'm really glad Matthyse is getting another shot after being robbed twice.

Yes he will, Khan is willing to fight anybody to build a legacy, and I think he's proved that by now, no matter what the (perceived) risk it poses. I have a feeling this fight will happen in December.

Now that Bradley has been stripped, a fight with him is dead. So it's definitely going to be one of the following:
    • Matt-Morales winner
    • Guerrero if he beats Maidana
    • Peterson
I'd hate to see Khan beating on a much loved legend, so ideally, I'd like to see Matt go through. A win over him will be respected far more than a win over Morales.

Plus I still don't think he's got over everyone saying he has a glass chin yet, judging by the HBO interview after the Judah fight. So he's probably going to want to try and prove people wrong again by getting in there with another hard hitter like Matthysse.

This has me stuck as well, I want to see morales win that fight but I dont want to see him get beaten around by khan.
I agree with that list, it will most likely go like that.
