Hes resume is good, especially for a fighter lacking in polish and technical skill like he is. He came out of nowwhere and stunned the boxing world by beating Forrest and going on to fight some great fighters. Having said that the Vargas win dosent really count for much as Vargas was well past his prime, coming off a long layoff and fighting at the heaviest weight of his career. Mayorgas resume is good but it dosent come to close to Cottos as some posters have claimed, even if he beats Cotto

You have a valid point, but tell me how do you think cotto would have done against the line up that Mayo faced? pretty close to what mayo did i think..

No. But, I think if you factor in his significance in boxing in the last decade, I would have to think if Micky Ward gets in, Mayorga could then have a case. He beat the better opposition and he was a factor in boxing. I dont think he gets in if he beats Cotto. Maybe Cotto and then Martinez.

I think Cotto would have beat spinks, lewis and piccirillo at least. Trying to see how Cotto against mayorgas opponents isnt how you judge how good a fighter and his resume is imo. Cotto has a better resume than mayorga regardless of how he would do against mayorgas opponents. And a lot of the strength of Cottos resume lies in the light-welterweight division. Cotto was overall a smaller man so its hard to see how he would do against Mayorgas opponents.

You have a very good point. However you can see that mayo beat lewis, piccirrillo and most people would say he beat spinks. i will give you that cotto did beat shane...

Cotto, right now has a better resume, but i think that if mayo beats cotto, their resumes will be very close.. ( kelson pinto, torres, and another undefeated fighter that i cant remember now were good but unproven boxers at the time cotto faced them ) so it will be close.. as mayo would have forrest 2x,lewis, piccirillo, vargas and cotto...

I suppose its a matter of opinion, Mayorga defintely some good wins under his belt (not including the Vargas win imho) And had a very good career. I didnt see his fight with spinks so i cant say whether he should have it won or lost legitimately. However Cotto also has wins over Judah, Clottey, bailey, Ndou and Quintana. He also beat a inexperienced paulie malignaggi, who might be the fighter your thinking of.

yeah it was pauly that i was missing.. out of the last 4 i see mayo ( somewhat prime mayo ) having trouble only with Judah, nonetheless are good wins for Cotto..

As it is right now neither fighter is going to the HOF, cotto needs more wins and bigger wins in his resume. If he can win this fight and avenge the losses to margarito and pac then i think he'll be a shoeing to the HOF.

This is fair and balanced. :good

There are plenty of Cotto fans (non-Boricuas, even) who think he's automatically there already.

The fact is that he's still got work to do, and right now is as much an outsider as Ricardo.
