If he beat Cotto, I'd rank him top 20

I thought i made quite clear at the end of my last post that i already consider Floyd great, but that i simply think he could be greater. What Duran did was foolhardy, but that's not exactly the same as stupid in my book, and foolhardiness and greatness go together quite ****in well.
As for there being "no way" Duran would have beaten those two, he made it pretty damn close against Hagler.

You make some decent points, but your argument is very much flawed. Take Lennox Lewis for example. The man has two losses on his record. So according to your logic, he's more proven than Floyd. However, his two losses had nothing to do with him pushing himself to the limit, and taking on guys who no one gave him a chance to beat. In fact, his two losses were to significant underdogs who were nowhere near as good as him. If Lewis had the focus and dedication of a Floyd Mayweather, he probably would've retired undefeated; beating every top contender or challenger willing to face him. Would this have made him less proven than he is now? Of course not.

There are some guys out there that are so talented, that it's almost impossible for them to fight someone and not be given a fair chance at winning. The closest Floyd ever came to this is when he faced Genaro Hernandez in his 17th fight. He was like a 3/1 underdog in that fight. Many picked him to lose based on his lack of experience. He of course destroyed Hernandez. Many critics today totally dismiss this victory because of Genaro's age(he was 32).

the problem in terms of ranking guys is the fans...we always want more or always try to diminish someones accomplishments is the ring by saying so and so was over the hill so and so was out of their weight class and no matter how many guys floyd defeats we wanna see him in with the next guy and the next guy cos he isnt well liked and people wanna seem him knocked off his perch. i know his resume could be better but IMO he's top 5 skillswise of all time top ten overall with or without cotto...its rare you get to see a guy go out on top with all his faculties and in good health and i look forward to floyd doing that my hat goes off to him and i'll respect him for that...its an unforgiving sport

"ha haha i like how u just forgot to mention Hatton..DLH..JUDAH....Corralles...Castillo and many other numerous champs that he CHERRY PICKED!!:patsch :bart" ray, hearns, and duran all were ko'd before because they fought the best competition around all the time. when boxing WASN'T about "money" it was about being the best boxer and greatest! oh by the way castillo was robbed of that first fight, mayweather lost than one even he knows that.

Im not sure he'd be the best in history but it would be hard to find anyone in history who is better either. He has mastered the sport of boxing as good as it can be to some extent but others in the past also have.

ps. the way he has won titles in so many divisions and remained undefeated is phenomenal.

It's absolutely true that just having losses on your record and having come back from them doesn't make you more proven or great, but that's not what i said exactly.
What i said was that being undefeated indicates that a fighter hasn't taken enough risks to hit the ceiling of his abilities, and that doesn't mean that he can't still have a great resume, but it can hurt his legacy.
It's not about having losses on your record, it's about the kind of losses.
