alright fellas, i've been reading, as most of you have, that floyd fans believe that if Floyd were to beat Cotto that people would continue to hound him.

They believe that Floyd haters will still say floyd hasnt fought anyone.

I for one believe that he defeats Cotto, he is the MAN. I think he is incredible right now. I just want to see a man with his talent fight the best possible competition.

So, my vote is that Floyd would be able to retire in peace. No one should say anything wrong about him if he beats Cotto.

    What do you guys think?

    VOTE!!!

If he doesn't move up to fight Calzaghe at LHW four days later he's a yellow-bellied fraud.

I dont know Jimmie. What would beating Mosley prove at this point in Mosley's career. Mosley is past prime so it really wouldnt mean as much. Dont get me wrong, it would not hurt his legacy if he fought and beat Mosley as well.

I'm just saying that beating Cotto would and should silence his critics. Beating Mosley without fighting Cotto wouldnt mean anything.

Leave him alone? Holy **** man. If he beats Cotto he is doing what the Welterweight champ and P4P champ is supposed to be doing. Fighting and beating the best possible challengers. No, I wouldn't leave him alone. I will continue to hold him to the highest standard as long as he claims he is the best fighter in the world.

    I would.......almost.

I also want him to clean the division out so he can really move up the ATG list. He probably won't do that if he beats Cotto and will probably just retire undefeated and CLAIM that he was the greatest ever but he didn't beat everyone during his era to earn that claim. So in that sense, i guess people will always have a gripe with him unless if he fights everyone.

great point. perhaps, i should have been a little more clear. if he beats Cotto and decides to retire, will fans give him the credit he deserves for beating the best welter out there, Miguel Cotto.

However, I do believe that if he were to continue fighting, he should take on the best available fighters out there.

This thread is more under the assumption that he truly decides to retire.

it depends entirely on how great he then says he is. If he does not run his mouth about being better than Sweet Pea, Robinson etc, then fair enough. He can retire as P4P king and best fighter of the decade.

But if he does claim to be the GOAT, or something similair, he should fight Mosley, Margarito, maybe even go up to MW. Very long way up I know, but Leonard beat a far more formidable MW champ than Pavlik....

If not, at least stick around and fight Berto, maybe a Peterson brother, if they do develop into world class fighters.

    WINNER!

If he beats Cotto that's awesome. I'd be glad if he took the fight and lost at this point.

If he beats Cotto he should move on and take on a few more welterweights...2-3 at least.

Yes then. If he beats Hoya again and then beats Cotto I believe he would be very highly regarded. I would certainly give him massive amounts of credit.

A rematch with ODLH is lose-lose unless he knocks Oscar out.

Let me make this clear. If you go around saying you are the greatest boxer of all time, and have been considered p4p #1 for a number of years, you do not fight over the hill fighters, and junior welterweights. You go after everybody in your weightclass. Floyd essentially has no excuses. He is in possibly the toughest division in boxing today, and he is still refusing to clear it out. He hasn't fought Margo, Cotto, Mosley, or Williams. And all of your arguements are void. You cannot say, "Why would he fight Williams, he has just been beaten by Quintana." Likewise, you cannot say, "why would Mayweather fight Margo, he was beaten by Williams". No, instead ask yourself this question.

Why would Mayweather Jr, after claiming to be the greatest thing of all time, go after 2 fights with old Oscar De La Hoya, and fight a junior welterweight in Hatton. Why would Mayweather Jr fight Gatti and Baldomir, rather than cleaning out the division. His excuse is, "Cotto doesn't have enough fans". We all know, A Cotto vs Mayweather fight would be absolutely huge!

Truth is, Mayweather should be cleaning out the division, and until he does it, he gets no respect off me.
