 That's why I didn't vote.. Because there's always a legitimate threat and I wasn't about to call Cotto a bum..

There is this old saying and I think it should come into play here.. "To be the best, you've got to beat the best.":good

He's undefeated because he's fought Baldomir, Gatti, Hatton, and old Hoya.

I feel you completely. I'm not arguing with you. If floyd were to retire after fighting Cotto(i'm a cotto fan and think he can win), then he could retire, but NOT AS THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME. He could easily retire maybe at top 25. but to be considered #1, then he would then have to continue fighting.

    :good Exactly.

I don't understand these Floyd fans who act as if the man is doing us all a favour even fighting at all.

Mayweather beating Cotto would simply cement his legacy as an ATG.

However, there's always more to do.

People say, "what more can so and so prove?". Prove you can beat even more quality fighters. If you want to have better support to your claims of being the greatest ever, it's gonna take a lot of work, more than all the great things he's done in the past, and more than even beating an excellent undefeated fighter in Cotto.

I am not a Cotto nuthugger so I'll address your almost unreadable post.

Cotto has fought Mosley, Quintana, Zab, and is now persuing a fight with Margarito. All considered top Welterweights.

Floyd has fought Zab, Oscar, and Hatton. Hatton was almost defeated by Collazo, and Oscar loses more fights than he wins these days.

I'm not saying Cotto would win, or that Floyd would lose, but it'd make more sense if he took on legitimate contenders.

I seem to remember Floyd beating world champions Genero Hernandez, Jesus Chavez, Carlos Hernadez, Castillo, Diego Corrales, and Zab Judah. Before stepping up to 154 to win a belt from Oscar De La Hoya which is just as impressive as Cotto's 147 victory over Mosley, if not more so considering it was a higher weight class and Oscar de La Hoya is only 4 years older then floyd. THEN beating a top 10 P4P fighter that very same year.

If you can name fighter with a similar resume fighting today, I'd like to see it.

    Hatton at 140 is good.

Hatton at 147 is mediocre and struggles with the likes of Louis Collazo.

Hatton win was impressive in nature, not in opponent.

Floyd Mayweather Jr has achieved great success in the past. But for a man who claims to be the greatest ever, he has yet to prove it against the best in his division today. If you can claim otherwise, do so.

I ve never heard floyd referred to as the 1 all time furthermore many rate duran over leanord yet he quit against ray(i know he gave ray the lost but a quit is a quit right) The thread is if floyd beats cotto can he have peace from the haters and the truth is the longer he wins the more haters will latch on to the next contender supposedly destin to beat floyd i love boxing and the great should fight the great but what about guys ducking sims or delahoya never fighting either of the guys that killed mosely (wright and forrest) Both at 154 or 147 be fair to all boxers get on top of all that fall short of what we deem championship material.
