It really doesn't matter who Floyd fights-there always gonna hate- Lets say he fought and beat Pacquiao-...there would be someone else...lets just say it would be Martinez....then there would be someone else- There will never be a worthy opponent for Floyd-People will always discredit who he fights-COTTO IS THE TOP DAWG AT 154 RIGHT NOW-He is the consensus best there and he has more SKILL than ANY fighter at 154..... No matter who Floyd fights, there will always be an excuse as to why that opponent isn't good enough-TO GET CREDIT HE'LL HAVE TO GO UP TO 168 (Which he never will) and beat a Froch or a Ward...something along those lines.. As for his "resume" at 154...A win over Cotto definitely puts him up there-...but lets be real here...he has fought in the division twice (by May 5) and you have fighters who have campaigned there for their entire career...Is a Win over Cotto great for Floyd's career? Absolutely! He will have fought the #1 guy in the divison twice. But as to the side story in this thread-Floyd will never get the credit he is due-even if he beat Pacquiao convincingly, there would still be plenty of new haters and many of the same old ones.
lol no he didn't-PW was fighting on the undercard of Mayweather Baldomir- His first big win was over a cheating Margarito (good win btw as Williams was at a disadvantage as he didn't have wraps)...Floyd was already fighting Ricky Hatton after PW beat up Tony- PW then opted to fight Cintron, but Cintron pulled out with injury-so he fought Quintana and got outboxed like no other:deal PW did not have the name nor bring much of anything to the table in terms of being a star-Floyd didn't duck em though-They were never in line to fight each other regardless-
If Mayweather beats Cotto, he will be the best black fighter named Floyd Mayweather fighting at 154 today. bar none.:deal Possibly of all time.
If he had definitively beaten Pac in 2009, that would have been it. Hatton and JMM were never the superstar "undefeatables" Pac was in 2009. Now that public perception is that Pac has slipped, Floyd won't get credit for it. He had his shot to beat "the man" and shut everyone up forever - but that window of opportunity was rare and once in a lifetime. Who else could have been "the man" that would have shut everyone up? De La Hoya and Mosley were so late in their careers that it was clear from their next performances that they were done. Beating Pac would have silenced everyone forever, and we all know that.
lol, Sds wrote whoe article with out any CAPITAILs, respect. Pretty good win fpr floyd. i am not sure if that was the question thou. I swear to gold this Mohito long drink is having to start massive efect on my brains.
I disagree-Floyd beating Pacquiao would just bring up a new name-wether he beat em in 2009 after Hatton or 2010 after Cotto..it dont matter. I remember being here in 2007-2008 when everyone said they'd give Floyd credit if he KNOCKED Hatton out-well he did but still very little credit..Everyone said Floyd would dance and outbox em etc...Then when he knock em out they made more excuses- Even if he beats Manny Pacquiao, he will not get due credit-There will always be someone else- As for Shane Mosley-People were saying he was scared of Shane after the JMM-Mayweather fight-People were saying Shane scared Floyd cuz of his size etc...The previous fight before Floyd, Shane looked great too...He was also the #3 Lb 4 Lb in the world and #1 WW when Floyd beat em.
He "officially" gave up hi belts due to "retirement"...So "officially" he retired.:thumbsup I actually enjoy debating with you now-Your views are not as far out as I thought. You not like Pejevan or Pugi or some of these idiots-It seems you really believe "what" you believe-your not just trolling-I respect that.
Sure top 1 because Cotto is a career light middle with 3 fights at 154 and ODLH was so great when he fought him. It is nice to be a ***** - it is always sunny in their world. It does not matter that they lack brain mater.
There will always be haters, that is given. But which one would be funnier? People accuse him of ducking Margarito or ducking Baldomir?
But if Shane had knocked out Mora and then crucified Pac and defeated Berto, everyone would KNOW Floyd was the #1 man. Hagler became THE MAN FOREVER after he beat Hearns. Duran gained immortality from three fights: Leonard, Moore, and the icing on the cake, Barkley. FLOYD WOULD HAVE GOTTEN CREDIT FOR SHANE IF SHANE HAD DONE ANYTHING TO INDICATE HE WAS AWESOME AFTER THAT FIGHT. Or for destroying Pac of 2009. Tszyu gets all that credit for Zab and Mitchell.
atsch You asked about beating him being a great win at 154. Do you not underatand what that means? That means beating a GREAT JrMW. Not a fighter who just moved up there. It's pretty ridiculous that you need this simple thing explained to you.
Being a three weight titlist does NOT automatically make him a top JR MW. It's what you DO at thatg weight that matters. How the **** is that not common knowledge with some of you? ISn't this a ****in boxing board with guys who understant that ****? And Margarito was not a LtM titlist. Mayorga got a belt HANDED to him beatng Michelle Piccarilo. Foreman is the only win worth anything at 154 at the moment.
I find myself defending Floyd more than I want to and its always on this subject. Alright, look Floyd never made REAL money until after he left Top Rank. He made so much money (more than he ever thought pr imagined) that he decided to retire and enjoy life. But like most new money people he lived beyond his means and owed the IRS big time. So he needs an income cuz he's an idiot when it comes to money. So now he fights nothing but huge money fights in an effort to have enough money to maintain his lifestyle for the rest of his life. Sadly I don't think he will have enough, cuz no matter how much money you have spending beyond your means will make you broke. I hope I'm wrong about that last point but I doubt it.
