Given his history, Floyd isnt likely to do any of that:good He and his groupies continually act as if his legacy is somehow set and he is the GOAT. Its a sad ****ing fantasy!

I would love to see you're scenario come true, it would go a long way towards legitimizing his claims and would TRULY CEMENT him as an ATG WW.

Greb,robinson,ali,leonard,monzon to name just a few,etc...
Look at leonard for example,only about 30-40 fights but beat atgs in benitez,duran,hearns and hagler,this over 147-160 (i will ignore his wining titles at 154, and 168-175 ) these fighters alone are better than any mayweather has faced or will face (unless hatton/cotto prove to be super greats.) ,so how is he ever going to get to number one,its too late,the pretty boy has ducked,dived and can never do it,he would have lost earlier if he had taken more risks. He just hasnt got it in him to be GOAT in any way,shape or form.....Currently he is fighting for the money,any that dont see this are blind......

It's all irrelative anyway, as in paradox to the true ATG's who got in the ring with the best at the time, 'money may' will not fight Cotto.

 

Leonard was lucky to have that great era. Right now, there are no all time greats like that (except perhaps Oscar). I don't think Benitez is that great, but Duran, Hearns and Hagler are arguably the GOAT in their divisions.

 

Arum is making plans for Cotto. He wants Cotto to face Oscar or Clottey in May and then Margarito in July. So it looks like Cotto is the one that won't face Mayweather. :yep

There's really not much that can be said to discredit them is there?

But Sugar Ray's resume, and note I rank SRL extremely high and think he would destroy Floyd head-to-head, but his resume might be a little misleading. He lost one to Duran, and in the second just clowned him into quitting. He didn't really have to beat the 'best Duran' the second time, because Duran quit out of frustration. Many felt he lost to Hagler and the second Hearns fight.

Floyd might be, actually he is a little smaller then Leonard. To many times do people solidify "all-time greats" as such a thing and too easily dismiss the notion of any current fighter being as good as them. Meaning, would Duran really be that much of a tougher fight for Leonard then Cotto would be for floyd? Was Hearns that much tougher of a fight for SRL then a more seasoned Williams might end up being for the much smaller Floyd?

 

If he beat Hatton, Cotto and Wiliams/Cintron you would have to put him in top 3, there's just no way around it. People have to remember that Floyd's natural weight class is 130, he never moved up in weight because he couldn't make weight, he moved up to find bigger challenges. So if he dominated a division, that's basicly the hottest division in boxing, 3 weight classes above what's natural to him, that speaks for itself...

To compare with another great, Sugar Ray Leonard, he had two BIG fights at 166 against Duran and Hearns, but they both came up with him from 147. They weren't natural super middleweights...

But with that said, I don't know if Floyd vs. Williams is very realistic, can Floyd even Reach Paul's head? That guy is a freak of nature...

Sugar ray leonard was VERY lucky that history gave him those great fighters,but he took his opportunity with both hands and actually made those fights and beat those guys...Those fights were close and he actually lost to duran (who p4p was better than leonard and all the others.) but he competed extremely well in all those fights.....Pbf doesnt have those fighters around,but he has had kostya,cotto,williams and others with whom he could have solidified his resume but instead has chosen the most money/least risk way....
Oscar was way past his best when facing floyd and is not a great like benitez,floyd is his own worst enemy because his claiming to be goat with no real rational reason makes people respect him even less,hes not nor never will be as good as even whitaker.....Classless personality,and not backing up his talk of 'knockouts' and 'toe to toe' wars doesnt help his cause either.....

 

Hearns started at 147 just like SRL, their first fight was at 147, it was actually very simirlar to Floyd vs. Corrales who also had "lethal 1 punch power". My point is, Hearns was a freak at 147 just like Williams, you are right about that. But Floyd's natural weight is 130, unlike SRL who's natural weight class was 147. That's an important difference...

And furthermore it's funny you accuse Floyd of "backing down" because that's exactly what SRL was accused for when he wouldn't fight Hearns a second time. Another thing Floyd and Ray have in common is that Ray was also hated and was seen as "arrogant" by many. He was booed when he came into the ring against Hearns the second time around. A fight he clearly lost but was given a draw, which was a scandal...

I wonder how many here has actually seen SRL's fights...

SRL went what 15-1 in 3 years from 79-81 and fought Benitez, Druan twice, and Hearns at 47 during that span. Thats called PROVING YOURSELF A CHAMPION.:good

As for backing down from hearns? SRL suffered a detached retina in the first fight and that seriously derailed his career. Trying to compare a REAMATCH and a First challenge is apples and oranges, as well as a losing proposition.

Yes, Leonard's personality was disliked but whats that got to do with what takes place IN THE RING?? NADA!!!

I hate floyd, but I'll respect what HE ACCOMPLISHES:good
