It's already pretty unanimous among fans ( save for Floyd nuthuggers ) that Cotto will be a trial by fire for Mayweather, so if he were to win.. where would he rank as an ATG?

It'll enhance it obviously. Where Floyd is placed in terms of his greatness after he retires is still up in the air. But his resume is better with Cotto's scalp then w/o out.

like Lance said and also it depends on what Cotto accomplishes after their bout as well.

Floyd's legacy would improve. I would consider him a top 20-25 ATG.

It's a win that could appreciate over time if Cotto establishes a legacy as one of the greats.

What if he beat Cotto, then retired? That would put a win on his record over someone who the majority felt he couldn't beat PLUS his undefeated status.

Exactly. Look how much better Cotto's win over Quintana looked after he beat Williams.

IF Mayweather wins against Cotto he can already cement his accomplishment on the boxing world.

At the moment Mayweather needs to go back to boxing and fix his legacy rather than making money at scripted wrestling.

The majority of posters here seem to favor Mayweather over Cotto. If he beats him and retires, it would be an excellent way to end it on top with a huge win.

Void would own the ref and judges, but he is still afraid of Cotto. Why should he fight such a dangerous fight when he can fake fight WWF?!

It would place him among the top 5-6 fighters of the past 30 years...the Whitakers, Leonards, and Joneses. Mayweather has already defeated 12 former world champions at least 4 or 5 future hall of famers and has garnered titles in 5 weights. A win over Cotto means he defeated Another pound for pound top 10 in his prime...Castillo, Corrales, and Hatton were all p4p at the time he defeated them, a case could be made for Genero Hernandez who cleaned out 130 before losing his title to Floyd. A win over Cotto makes his argument being the greatest ever more believable.

This is the only reason that I want Cotto to take out the Welters, to make his resume even more impressive and have the fight of the decade with Mayweather. May the best man win.....Cotto
