Whether or not someone is willing to pay thousands of dollars to go over seas to watch a boxing match does not determine if they're a real fan. Furthermore, guys like Floyd don't have a ton of hardcore fans. In America, the only boxers, for the most part, that have a devout following are hispanic boxers. Hispanics are really into boxing, and show great support for their fighters. Not many Americans are going to drop that amount of money to see a boxer, when their favorite sport is basketball, football, hockey, or baseball. I'm a big Floyd fan, but I'm not going to spend that kind of money to see him fight overseas when I could use that money to get season tickets to the Phillies, Sixers, or Eagles.

    good post bigreg

its amazing the contrast in cultures between usa and england.

in england no one gives a **** about american football, hockey or baseball, though some will watch american basketball.

the english are absoloutly fanatical about real football (as is the rest of the world) and would follow the english national side at rugby, football, and cricket in there 10's of thousands all over the world to watch them play.

i'm sure if the venue was big enough there would have been at least 30'000 made the trip accross the atlantic to watch hatton v pbf.

If you just remove these blatantly ignorant comments, you make a good point.

I think this is an anti Mayweather thread. How many Yanks would travel anywhere to see any of their sportsmen? I bet none would come to the UK to see ODLH, Mosley, Hopkins or any of the other huge stars.

Yeah, we have a lot of lard asses, but these days the Brits aren't exactly far behind in terms of obesity rates. Didn't physicians in the UK start to recommend gastric bypass surgery for morbidly obese British children a few months back?

Don't know about New Zealand, but last I heard 1/5 of Australian adults were obese too. It isn't just Americans who lead the world in sloth and gluttony these days. :good

Why would Floyd give a rematch after stopping Hatton in a shredding?
