his resume might not be much different but the perception of him would be significantly different.

he'd have fought some of the best welterweights and probably some at 154 and his record would not be perfect, he'd have a loss or two but he'd rank higher in ATG terms

Worse off. Arum didn't do anything for Floyd whch is why Floyd left. Floyd would probably accused of roids, and accused of fighting old, past it fighters and accused of possibly fighting suspended cheating fighters who tried to use illegal wraps, or paid off fighters like Clottey. Wait lol...

Tough call. In some ways you could theorize it might have been better for Mayweather's legacy - provided Floyd would be submissive and agreeable enough to face Arum's stable. Arum wouldn't have broken a potential Mayweather/Pacquiao fight. That's for sure.

He'd have fought and beaten Cotto and Margarito, not to mention guys like Clottey. The only win he would really be lacking, would be DLH, but I think Arum and GBP could have done business there. I think he'd still have fought Hatton regardless. I doubt Arum would let him face such a long list of non-threats either. It's also still possible a Mosley fight could have happened.

Not much to be honest, The De La Hoya fight might have became the Cory Spinks fight, The Baldomir fight might have became the Margarito fight, Cotto-Mayweather would have happened instead of Cotto-Margarito. And Unless Bob Arum was completely sure both men were looking to Cash out the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight wouldn't have happened.

So honestly only the Cotto fight really would have been the big difference.

He would have fought better opposition since Arum controls alot of good fighter around those weight classes.

Mayweather might be getting ****ed by Arum and just not want to come out and say it because it lets the fans in on too much of the business for the next time he actually wants to promote a fight.
They need the fans to remain 'marks' like they do in pro wrestling so you will push out your money, but unlike pro wrestling (most) of the decisions aren't pre determined, so there is that little bit of risk involved that floyd wants to avoid so he can keep being the 1 sided dominant god father of boxing.
The dude wants a glass ceiling on the sport that he stands on top of while everyone else is clawing to come up. He just selects a new "safest risk" and shares the spotlight with him, pretends he is a top challenger, and then drops the hammer on the fans and the fighter and reminds us he just beat up a nobody.
I am especially worried when he was talking about coming back to fight the young up and comers and give them a shot. It reeks of the opposite formula to pull the wool, which is having a new star beat up legends for 1 last pay day.
Floyd is the evil promoter behind the boxer, he doesn't even need arum to rip people off. He was smart enough to figure it out and jump in on it. Shane/Oscar/Bhop... all intelligent dudes who know the real money is in promoting a fight and not fighting in it.

He would have replaced the De La Hoya and Baldomir fights with Cotto and Margarito, possibly dropping the Hatton fight too as I think he would have still took time out.

Would he have been better off? Financially no. Legacy wise it's hard to say as DLH was a huge fight and Hatton was highly rated back then too.

It's a game that Floyd Mayweather and other promoters/boxers are playing with the american public and the networks.
They all want to control the product.
Every boxer wants to be the king, because they get to dictate the rules.
They don't have to accept the glove disadvantages... the purse splits... the ring size.
The king says 'my rules or no fight'

I think the floyd fight didn't happen with pacquiao because both guys and teams wanted to pull a power play and not give in because 'you need me more than I need you' was in both of their heads.

It's not. It's just recognizing when a guy is cherry picking as a career move and being forced to finally fight a top guy.
You think any boxing star with half a brain WANTS to fight the hardest/toughest fights after they are a mega star?
    Of course not.

If floyd wasn't so horrible at PR, maybe he could make it look less like cherry picking and more like taking on all comers.

Just watch apollo creed looking for an opponent in the movie rocky and you'll know the exact process for which big stars choose opponents. "i don't want you fighting no south paw" sound familiar?
