Up to which weight could he win belts?? Williams and Mayweather are both welterweights, but obviously they're a lot different in size. Take Williams size, give him Mayweather's skills, up to what weight does he win titles? (Hypothetical question, don't get arsey about it)
:think If he had the same speed and 147 or 154 was the weight class he started in as a pro, he would be a monster and would dominate WW, JMW MW, SMW and possibly light heavy...Noone in those weight classes now are even remotely skilled as floyd, maybe RJJ IMO
If Floyd had Williams size he wouldn't be the same fighter. Floyd has a very specific style that is tailored to his physical gifts.
All else being equal, if Floyd one day woke up in Paul Williams body and didn't lose and speed, skills or anything like that. He could win a Heavyweight title, no doubt. He wouldn't beat Wlad, but he could cherry pick one of them and decision them. Paging Mackie Shilstone!!!
he bed the greatest boxer of all time just choking, still, with his athletictism and 6 feet 1 inches...fast tall reach....cotto, pavlik, calzaghe would get there O stolen. he seriously would be top 7 all time material.
What if Floyd had all the skills he has now, but when he was 10 years old. He could have started at Straw and world his way up (maybe a new weight division per fight). And then, once he reaches 147 (I anticipate by the age of 17), he could jump bodies to Paul Williams and rule up to LHW (age 23). Then, one final jump into the mean physique that is David Haye and he could win titles at every single weight division... Floyd is just THAT talented. And all by his mid 20's. Then, the only thing left is to wrestle a 7ft giant....... Hmm... But seriously, who could stop him? (Apart from Amir Khan obviously)
If Mayweather had Williams's size and had started his career at 147...he would probably have success at 154, 160 and 168.
Floyd's skillset was moulded for his size, his frame...as is any boxer for they can only work with what they're born with. Propotionally Williams is a much different build. I'm a welter of Williams size, and i can't adopt a pocket-style like Mayweather because more gaps are exposed in my longer frame. Shell-based defense doesn't work for me, shoulder-rolls in the Mayweather tradition won't work for me. If Mayweather was proportionally the same fighter only larger it would be the same case as his current career...he dominates men his size and he outclasses the larger ones without taking much punishment. Starting at welter add 5 weight classes with 175 being a one-fight deal like Oscar-Floyd and Ruiz-Jones Jr.
