If Mayweather McGregor does better than Canelo Triple G . . . lets not get carried away . . .

If Mayweather McGregor does better than Canelo Triple G, does more PPV buys etc etc lets not get carried away.

For Mayweather McGregor you will get a huge number of MMA / UFC fans tuning into a Boxing PPV for the first time to see. That's a demographic that wouldn't otherwise buy a boxing PPV.

So lets not get carried away here if Mayweather McGregor does well. It will do well, and for boxing fans I don't see why we can't get excited for both fights.

If it does better than Canelo vs Triple G so what. You have an entire sport of fans (UFC) that will be buying this fight. With Canelo vs Triple G, you won't get that additional fanbase to watch. Of course that will be offset by a lot of boxing fans who won't buy Mayweather McGregor on principle. But still you got a ****load of UFC fans who will buy this fight who won't be buying Canelo Triple G because they aren't into boxing.

Also for Oscar being pissed off that this fight will cut into Canelo Triple G sales, Oscar, relax man, take a different approach. if the Mayweather McGregor is a snoozefest like he predicts, then it's not going to satisfy anyone's appetite for a big fight, and people are going to be even that much more excited for Canelo Triple G. If Mayweather McGregor is exciting, then why wouldn't a great fight like that make people even more interested in Canelo Triple G to carry that momentum into another Super Fight two weeks later?

We know this is going to be dueling PPVs, buyrate debates, etc. But I for one don't care which fight does more PPVs. I want BOTH fights to do well.

 

If this does better than Canelo Triple G, in my personal opinion it will be because UFC fans will be buying a boxing PPV for the first time. McGregor is arguably a bigger star worldwide than Triple G. Another factor is that neither Canelo or Triple G really speak english.

The buildup will be better for Mayweather vs McGregor because they can actually speak english. You got major factors working in Mayweather & McGregor's favor. However, strictly from boxing fans, more boxing fans will buy Canelo vs Triple G for obvious reasons. It's the casual sports fan that doesn't really follow boxing but only buys mega fights + UFC fans who wouldn't buy a boxing PPV but know Conor from UFC and will want will buy to see Conor + Floyd Maywether's name recognition + The two fighters being able to trash talk and speak english unlike Canelo vs Triple G + the fact that it's happening two weeks BEFORE Canelo vs Triple G.

This all should give Mayweather vs McGregor a much bigger casual audience that will buy.

However you have a good amount of boxing fans who won't buy the fight because they think it's a joke. Still that's a small % vs all the other factors. Still I don't think it's a foregone conclusion which one will do better. And frankly I wouldn't trust the number that come out as to which one does bigger. Showtime or HBO could flat out lie about what the numbers are. Yes I think more people will buy Mayweather McGregor but not because of the hardcore boxing fans. More hardcore boxing fans will buy Canelo vs Triple G.
