What's the MMA fan sentiment? Are they for this fight or against it? I think that will answer the question of who will buy this fight.

I think regardless what they say now, come fight week they'll be sucked into it by the press conferences, face offs between Floyd and Conor, the trash talking, all the boxing vs MMA debates, etc and they will watch simply because they want to see what's gonna happen.

There's a lot of pride involved here. Don't get it twisted, this is truly Boxing vs MMA (in the minds of casuals at least) for the first time ever. You cannot understate just how big this is going to be from seeing possibly the greatest boxer ever take on one of the top draws of MMA in his prime in boxing.

And sure, this will overshadow Canelo vs Triple G to an extent. We know that the ESPNs and the Fox Sports of the world will be fixated on Floyd vs Conor for the next 2 months with all the boxing vs MMA debates that will ensue. As boxing fans, lets not be bitter about it though. It's a good problem to have essentially. Even if it cuts into Canelo vs Triple G's buildup, so what? Canelo vs Triple G's buildup wasn't going to be anything special since neither guy really speaks english and it's going to be pretty much low key and respectful regardless. With Canelo Triple G it's the fight that we want to see. Floyd vs Conor on the other hand expect there to be fireworks in each and every press conference or interview.

So expect competition and some bitterness between TMT and Oscar & between Boxing and MMA fans throughout the next several months, that's to be expected. It's a tug of war for relevence and supremacy, but at the end of the day both fights are huge and we as fans are being treated to two major events, so there's no reason to complain about it. I'm just saying don't get carried away with which fight wins the PPV battle. Both events should do massive numbers, and I don't see why success in Floyd vs Conor can't translate to Canelo vs Triple G.

LOL OK but you know Floyd Conor won't tank. You know the sports media will be fixated on this for the next two months building this thing up as Boxing vs MMA. You know it will overshadow the buildup to Canelo Triple G, right? Not because it should, because of the casual sports fan and because of the media and because of UFC fans thinking this is their day of reckoning. It's plainly obvious that these are gonna be dueling PPVs. Of course boxing fans should side with the real fight (Canelo vs Triple G) but with Floyd vs Conor it's like that car crash that you just can't help but stare at. That fight is gonna bring out the passion of UFC fans like we've never seen before.

Are you telling me that you don't expect Floyd vs Conor to be massive? Look at the amount of media coverage this is getting. The sports media are gonna be fully fixated on this.

Unfortunately you are right but it's BS that the two world class, relevant boxers in Golovkin and Canelo, have to play second fiddle to Bozo and Krusty the Clown hitting each other with nerf bats. I hope it tanks.

I'm a MMA fan and a boxing fan and I think it's a joke. Unfortunately there are some of my pals that are MMA fans and they think it's brilliant  On the plus side, I managed to make a bet with one of them on the outcome :greedy: LOL the dude thinks Conor will KO Floyd :jaja-no: Come fight night (I'm NOT watching) I'll spaz out between wanting my cash and wanting Floyd to lose :grazy:

This fight is meaningless for boxing and for mma. There's no point. Only a moron would think the best in any two similar fields would have a bearing on one another. Conor is a no hoper here. Fluid will come in with his usual full palette of advantages, IV night before, judges, bodyguard ref, you name it, sanctioning body who will do anything for him, and then you have a top mma fighter whose a noob in boxing. There's no way in hell he can go from being a noob who was toyed with by Van Heerden to a boxer who will give any sort of competitive fight overnight. Its a ****ing complete joke.

Sad situation for people that really are just going to tune in for the curiousity.
The sad part if that most of those tuning in have no idea just how mismatched McGregor is going to be.

We're looking at an ATG fighter who's still very capable to share a ring with the very best against a complete novice of a fighter who's never boxed professional or amateur in his life.

Wow, Mayweather is going to dry hump the masses on this one. LOL!

It probably does more than Canelo-GGG. There's enough suckers who will gleefully bend over and shell out $100 to see this. In fact that's who the whole event is catering to. Surely more than 2 million buys in the US. No way it gets too close to Mayweather-Pac though. Canelo-GGG of course matches Canelo-Chavez's 1 million, but let's be honest though GGG's pretty popular Canelo's the star and it shouldn't be able to double it. But let's judge the success of Canelo-GGG as an event on its own merits, not use anything about Mayweather-McGregor as an excuse.

This being the boxing vs mma spectacle it is, boxing should win in every way. As a moneymaker, McGregor doesn't have the pulling power for this to get close to the nearly 5 million buys Mayweather-Pacquiao got in the US. So Mayweather will be part of a big show, yet be able to say an mma star can't make the event he and Pac as boxers did. If it does well enough boxing might earn some new fans, while if it bombs it's because a boxer dominated and showed up mma. What's obvious is there's no reason for boxing fans to worry. And if we want to watch actual boxing that night we can watch Cotto-Kamegai. Boxing can't lose.
