I think you're overstating how much of a factor weight would play. De La Hoya was probably 170+ lbs. in his fight against Mayweather. Cotto was supposedly 168 lbs. Ortiz was 164 lbs. Skills are way more important in boxing than weight. Furthermore, Mayweather is used to being in there with bigger guys. I remember reading an article where they were interviewing Montell Griffin(former LHW champ). Griffin remarked how Roy Jones has faster hands than Mayweather. He cited his fights with Roy, and sparring sessions with Mayweather. The important part to take from this is that Mayweather was sparring with a damn LHW. And this was when Mayweather was fighting at 130. I know, sparring is a lot different than the fight. However, it shows that Mayweather can handle the bigger guys.

It won't be canelo in september. You can bet the house on that. Floyd will make that one wait at bit. I'm not sure he'll have a opponent for September, he has a built in excuse with his hand being hurt.

The reason for not taking the canelo fight now is basically once he's beaten Canelo who is there left to beat? Pretty much no one. Can't sell a Garcia Mayweather PPV if Mayweather just waxed the floor with Canelo can you? Not bloody likely.

Alexander should joint 50 cent if they wanted to sell a fight with floyd. The once friends now enemies story line could sell.

Don't rule out seeing floyd in the ring with Tim Bradley if he wins against Marquez. Also bank on it, one of his last 5 fights will be against Manny Pacquiao. You can bet your bottom dollar. Same as Lennox wanted a win over a faded tyson just so people couldn't say he never faced tyson. Floyd will see beating a not prime Manny pacquiao as the best possible option.

Floyd won't go to England unless he thinks he can make 50 million dollars doing it. After the Diaz fight there isn't a hardcore boxing fan in this world that is going to pay to see Khan vs Mayweather....so you can write that one off for now. If Khan beats a couple of credible WWs like Alexander and Ortiz then he'd be in that discussion for sure.

Everyone should pay attention to Kieth Thurman. He's a guy that has the mouth to sell but not the record. Once he has the record to sell to people they'll probably make that fight.

If Bradley wins against Marquez then i would love for him to get a shot against Floyd.

Alvarez should offer what Suiliaman suggested, a catch weight at 150 this way the little Floyd supporters dont start bitching about weight and talk about how little Floyd is.

but your right this is the only fight that makes sense right now and it will generate tons of money and interest.

Showtime can't print money..they have to sell these fights to the public to make money off it....

You think Showtime can afford to sign a $30million dollar check to floyd (and cut him in on the PPV) for a fight nobody buys?? after this farce of a fight nobody is buying fights against garcia, alexander, kell brook, maidana, and probably not khan either.
They might eat a huge loss in september with an alexander fight...but they aren't going to let themselves become an ATM.

Showtime is going to be doing some arm twisting to make the canelo fight happen.

Alvarez knows he can barely make 154. He won't even bluff that.

An Alvarez fight would take more than 4 months to set up. I really feel Khan or Trout could be next.

Guerero is not a marketable name, and if the PPV exceeds 1.2 mil buys, expect Floyd to fight Alexander in Sept. then follow by Amir Khan.

I don't see Mayweather fighting Canelo primarily due to the size disadvantage he would have at fight night.

Canelo hydrates up to 170-175 lbs on fight night, he's bigger than most natural middleweights. He didn't start at a smaller weight class, this guy is just a naturally big man who will end up going pretty high in the weight classes as he gets older (can easily see him fighting in the SMW division in a few years.)

Most logical and pragmatic outlook for Floyd will be a tune up fight in September with someone like Khan, maybe Showtime will be able to have that fight made in the UK and sell out one of their big arenas.

I'd imagine FLoyd would come back after that fight and take on Sergio Martinez next year and have a chance to become the undisputed MW champ. Martinez doesn't look as big as Canelo does on fight night and he hasn't looked that dominant in quite some time. He's older than Floyd and he might be right for the picking after he rehabs from surgery.

The Canelo fight must happen, as it's going to be more competitive than Floyd-Cotto IMO. It's a fight for the ages.
