i believe it would beat anything out happening that week...Superbowl type numbers probably...free event on cable on a weekend known to be a huge party weekend for younger people up into their 40's..i believe it would do awesome numbers and make a pac-mayweather fight that much bigger..of course u wouldnt be able to pay the fighters what they want however but who gives a damn as it would heavily promote the sport with 2 of the 3 best fighters in the world on national tv

Not Super Bowl level numbers but certainly above the Slice-Nelson numbers from the Ultimate fighter. I would put them above that of a Season Premier or Finale of a popular show like CSI. Great numbers but nowhere near the Super Bowl.

    UHM - NO.
CSI numbers are like NFL numbers (10-18 million live viewers).
    Superbowl gets over 100+ mil.

If you think PBF vs Mosley has the power of the NFL, then you are overestimating boxing's mainstream appeal.

Let me put it this way, it would not be broadcasted by the big 4 (CBS, NBC, FOX and ABC) if it was during weekday primetime. It has a chance because it falls during late Satruday night.

It would not generate enough viewership for the big 4 to show it and pay the broadcast fees like HBO does. ESPN would definitely show it but that is just a question of money.

My guess would be the numbers is a low to mid level primetime- around 6 million for a Saturday schedule and lower for weekday primetime schedule. It has nearly zero appeal to women, old people and teens. All key demographics needed to pull anything in double digit millions.
The base is 18-40 male. With internet and video games, that base is not as strong as it was in the 80s and early 90s.

I'd say it would probably do 11-15 million viewers.

There is an argument for that. But with that kind of numbers, ESPN and the other networks would at least try to get the broadcast rights. But they don't for several reasons. One of them is that the there is little evidence for those numbers thus the broadcast fees and promotional cost are hard to justify. Second, the possibility of cancellation (injuries, etc) and dealing with boxing promoters / sanctioning bodies almost guarantee that boxing will never be shown in primetime TV in the US.

Boxing would need to pull 30+ million to justify itself for primetime network broadcast. Remember that the rules for one time evens (boxing, Superbowl, playoffs,) are much higher than weekly shows. 5-10 million are great for weekly shows but abysmal for one time events.

Those numbers are not going to happen, especially for PBF vs Mosley.

The biggest reason boxing isn't on network TV in America is because of the promoters. They tend to be unreliable and unprofessional, and they don't stack cards so if the big fight falls through there is nothing the average fan wants to see. You have to give Sauerland and Universum credit, they get huge ratings in Germany and world wide.

Without any support? By support I mean a recent history of boxing being on Network TV. I don't think it would do as well as boxing fans would like it to do. Unfortuntly due to Pay Per View Boxing has become a nitch sport. While the "avrage" sports fan will watch the Super Bowl, World Searies, Olympics, World Cup and Men's NCAA basketball championship. They are not going to tune in to a boxing match no matter who the boxers are.
I think it will draw in the usual PPV watchers and boxing fans like myself who think PPV has been one of the worst things to happen to boxing ever. Who would not pass up the chance to see the fight if it was on the Networks.

Froch-Pascal only got about 2m, that's why ITV sort of lost interest in him.

I cannot imagine ITV having dropped him if he got 8 million. Abraham averages about 6-7 million in Germany and those are seen as very good numbers in a larger market.

Im not sure. We know possibly 2mil will be happy to pay $50 for it...how many would watch it for free...should be a lot more.
