no wait a minute, forget retire. If Mayweather were to tragically "pass away" today(I'm not a PBF hater that hopes this I'm just wondering), in fewest words, what would you say about his legacy/career?

He was a great champion, but one that put his fans and legacy second to money. He'd be a top 30 atg.

those are two different questions... if he retired today, i think his legacy would be seriously tarnished because there would be the sense that he quit in his athletic prime instead of facing legitimate world-class opponents... however, if he were tragically removed, then he'd join a long long list of artists (fighters, other athletes, musicians, actors, writers, etc.) who died in their prime of life and we would put him on a pedestal and say wow what if...?

Yes, exactly - couldn't have said it better. Mastered the financial aspect of the sport and beat everyone they put in front of him. Terrific athlete, better businessman, and top 30 ATG. They would not be making movies about him in 20 years though.

The sport of boxing would be better off without him.

as much as I dont like the dude, I dont wish death on him . . .maybe just loss of vocalization.

That's why I cancelled the retire question. Just the other one, though I'd never wish it on anyone. Because I feel if he retired he'd be hated by everyone, but if he passed, well that's a whole different story and I just want to see what people think of his legacy without hearing too much about ducking someone.

He is kind of a douche bag, but he doesn't need to die.

For the most part, I think he would get overrated if he died young and in his prime.

w/o a legit HW champion boxing has shown that its very capable of survival ... the state of boxing would forever live ... but as far as PBF ...

IMO ... he's will go down as the greatest boxer ever to live and it would add to the list of former/current michigan residents that were great boxers.

It would add more prestige to the greatest state in the united states --

If he passed today ... Floyd would be considered the greatest boxer ever to lace up a pair of gloves.

No one has possessed the kind of defensive skill ... never seen him swollen after a fighter ... never seen him cut ... never seen him knocked down ... never seen him hurt.

This guy had an unbelieveable streak of 39 fights 0 losses 0 draws ... 6 world titles ... 5 different weight classes ... 20 title fights ... some teen world champions on his resume ...

Its doesn't seem like its real ... a guy that has never came close to losing a professional fight.

He has a SD victory over Oscar but every knows that it was UD ... with all of his victories coming by KO or UD ... its hard to see him having a difficult fight.

People will talk about him getting "worked" by JLC ... people will talk about his bout with Oscar ... Corrales ... Castillo II ... Ricky Hatton ... and Zab Judah ...

Truely a great fighter who gave the sport his whole life ... never given a choice and was thrown in with the lions and composed himself well.

    A helluva fighter !!
