Spinks certainly looked more athletic at Heavyweight but how would a fight between em go?
James Toney s old school style verse Spinks one of a kind style?

    Pump it up to15 round.
Make Toney really work for it!

Spinks is flat out better at boxing than Toney.

It's a small club, but Spinks is in it.

He's better p4p, he'd beat Toney head to head at any weight and you know what? I don't think it would be close. At all. Wide decision for Spinks in a dull one.

So Spinks would beat him basically, as RJJ did. Easily?

Spinks beats Toney at any weight Light Heavyweight, Cruiserweight, Heavyweight, just a bad style match up for him.

Toney wouldn't be able to lay on the ropes and
wait for the counters as he often did against
most of the fighters he faced at heavyweight.
Spinks was just as skilled, but more active,
and wouldn't fall for the traps. Spinks by wide UD.

We’re talking about Prime v Prime. Or at least as near to Prime as can be considering both were probably past their prime during their Heavyweight days…well Toney more so anyway. The only thing I believe is that both fighters will be standing at the end. I can’t see any KOs from either boxer. It will be more like a chess game, counters, feints, quick combos aplenty…Checkmate in Spinks favour I reckon.

I think Spinks would be far too active for Toney and take a decision.

It’s wide. I agree, Toney takes an L. I don’t however think Spinks is the more sophisticated boxer between the pair just bigger with the right style and attributes in this H2H instance. Mike is great though.

There is a reason why Toney never fought a fighter that was faster/slicker after Jones Jr and Montell Griffin. As great as Toney was, he struggled with movers as he went up in weight. He avoided Juan Carlos Gomes at Cruiserweight and wanted no part of Chris Byrd at Heavyweight. Toney was at his best against bangers and he and Roach knew it.

Spinks would have beaten him cleanly at heavyweight.

Spinks was always just a little better than James.. I love James, but he had a slight limitation at that elite elite level... He almost made it. But it would go the distance and he would make it interesting..
