If Miguel Cotto beats Sergio Martinez, does he become greater than Felix Trinidad?

Question to the ones saying Cotto: Who you think would win between the two at 147, 54 and 160lb weight class? P4P Tito will always be better than Cotto.

There's no question that Trinidad is the greater fighter, even if Cotto bears Martinez. The run that Trinidad had before he moved to MW was incredible and he was P4P best in the world at a point. If cotto had beat either Pacquiao or Mayweather then the conversation would be different. But since he didn't, his resume just doesn't come close to Trinidad's.

Now, with that said. I actually think Cotto is a more skillful fighter than Trinidad. Trinidad was pretty one dimensional and relied on his freakish power and good chin to blow people away at WW and JMW. In all of Trinidad's losses, he simply gets outboxdd for twelve rounds while plodding forward trying to land a left hook. It didn't matter if it was the 7th round and he was down 6-0, he would still persist with his failing strategy. Cotto on the other hand has shown some versatility in his career and has actually managed to to somewhat successfully switch identities. When he was fighting at JWW, Cotto was a very similar to Trinidad in his approach. He was a come-forward fighter who relied on his left hook and pressure to blow guys away. Unlike Trinidad, however, when cotto moved up in weight he realized that strategy wouldn't work when fighting bigger guys. So he really developed his Jab and lateral movement and showed a serviceable ability to book off the back foot. In his fights with Mosley, Clottey, Margarito, and Mayweather, Cotto was able to revert to pure boxing tactics to win rounds and or fights. His fight with Mayweather his notable because there were instances where he flustered Mayweather with his boxing skills. The moment that really comes to mind is when he hit Mayweather with two jabs in a row on the middle of the ring and Mayweather just looks disgusted with himself. Also at the end of round 8 or 9 when cotto is playing defense and has Mayweather swinging wildly and missing everything. I can't imagine Trinidad being that type of fighter.

So in my mind, Trinidad is greater and Cotto is more skilled.

He already is greater than Trinidad. If Trinidad fought in Cotto's time here are 3 things he wouldn't get away with these days he did back then:

    1. His glass jaw with punchers around like Kell Brook, Franke Gavin and Randall Bailey
    2. He wouldn't get away with loading his gloves now trainers are looking for it after TonyGate
    3. He wouldn't get away with juicing as easily with stricter testing.
