If Mikkel Kessler was handled by Americans, would he be any more popular?

i do not think the american boxing paying public would be anymore intrested in going to watch kessler fights than they would be in going to watch chambers/hopkins/cunningham/dawson/tarver/

    fights

if americans are not prepared to pay to follow american fighters why the **** would they follow kessler just because he had an american promoter ?

the sad fact is that a woman boxing in germany gets way more publicity and exposure and viewing figures than any boxer fighting out of america today oscar de la hoya included .

it does not matter who it is unless we get a tyson like figurehead back into the american boxing mainstream , american boxing viewing figures will continue to slump.

america needs a talisman american who can tanscend the sport to get it out of the dolldrums ,and not a european.

As far as i can read, danish media is pretty much staying with the facts and what is being said by the two parties. I dont see too much spin on the subject. Mogens Palle is frequently talking to the media and trying to use the media, whereas Kessler is not keen on using the media for talks. As of today the latter seems to have changed. Kessler feels he needs to defend himself against Palle's claims. Overall I don't see much criticism coming Palles way. After many years of dealing with the press Palle knows the game. You give a little bit to the press when they need it and then you get something in return later on.

And here is the problem...As long as you cats keep blaming everyone except Kessler nothing with change...Kessler could leave Palle, but he hasnt, Kessler can demand that they get him big fighter but he isnt, Kessler could have fought Miranda but he didnt....Palle is an easy target for the whipping post, but, just like in the Margo cheating case, Kessler is the head of his camp, and if he wants fights he can force the issue and get them.:good

You not agreeing doesnt make what I said a failure...Its the truth...Who cares whats going on with his promotional team???? He has managed to fight some bums, If he wanted to make a stand why not do what Cotto did before his fight with Jennings???

Cotto "Im not happy with this fight, No disrespect to him, Im just looking to have bigger and better fights"

Kessler is plenty happy to fight bums and get nice paydays to do it, if he werent he would make changes...And that is the bottomline:hey

Err, doesn't the fact that Mogens Palle is currently suing Kessler somewhat undermine your argument that Kessler is 'happy fighting bums' and hasn't 'demanded bigger fights' or 'taken a stand'?

I don't remember the exact quotes, but he said or a long time that Hausler didn't deserve his shot and he wasn't happy about fighting him.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it Miranda that chose to fight Abraham instead of Kessler.

He'd have a lot more fights, at least.

Complicated. We are really talking about two seperate proposed fights. Kessler pulled out of negotiations for the first, Miranda turned down the second.

The first was negotiated with the backing of Showtime and was to have been a non-title fight in Montreal. Kessler was then installed as mandatory for the WBA title and withdrew from negotiations with Miranda to pursue his challenge to Mundine.

Mundine chose to vacate rather than face Kessler, at which point a proposal was put together for a Kessler v Miranda fight for the vacant WBA title. This proposed fight was to be staged in Florida and was backed by HBO. In order to enable Miranda to fight for the title, Mogens Palle pulled some strings with the WBA and Miranda was bumped up their rankings to a high enough position. Miranda had been contacted by Sauerland with regard to a catchweight rematch with Abraham by this point and he chose to take on that match rather than a title shot against Kessler.

I think Palle is bad for him and he should jump ship asap. Personally i think gbp (luv them or hate them) would be good for him as they seem to be the most forward thinkning promotionl banner of the lot.

He needs a big fight soon but tht may not meen an American if you look at the 168lb division its isnt Americans that pop out at me, ofcourse Taylor would be Kess' ideal oponent, but the other champions are European from what I can see.

Without going to the states Kess could fight Froch, Inkin, Bute and Abraham, all good fights. Personally though Id like him to go to America and knock over a couple of contenders, that way he is more likely to secure a fiht with Jermain or Kelly. If he doesnt get his name out there he'll be forgotten.

IMO...NO..Its all about who you have promoting you now-a-days...Being American doesnt have anything to do with it...Look at Ricky Hatton, he's very popular and he isnt American. (just using him as an example)
