If Miquel Cotto retired today would you say he is a hall of famer?

not really, it seemed like he was just about to take it to another level, however he ran into Margarito. He will most likely get it, standards arent high

IMO Hall of Fame is not just about doing unbelievable, incredible things in terms of your resume. Obviously that helps. But everyone goes on like the Hall of Fame is only for ATG's, or boxers who are close to ATG's, or who are multiple division World champions. Being entered in to the boxing Hall of Fame is also about doing great things for the sport. Bringing new fans to the sport, providing entertainment, giving it your all...show your love for the sport by entering the ring in the best possible shape. Along with a solid/very solid resume, any boxer who ticks the above boxes should at some point be considered in the Hall of Fame, IMO.

true....well we can only judge for their time...and all of them were the best at their weight or multiple weight titlists. in all time p4p sense they dont rate high but as far as one weight but Tszyu is an ATG 140 and Hatton may be not so much Cotto

It's not the Hall of Greatness or the Hall of All-Time Greatness. Cotto's accomplishments on paper are excellent; he's beaten over 10 world champions and won 4 world titles in 3 weight divisions. Not to mention he's been a solid fighter for nearly a decade and fought just about everybody in exciting and high-profile fights. Is he one of the greats? No, but he will probably get into the Hall of Fame and I wouldn't argue it one bit if he did. He'd be very deserving of the honor.

If Prince Naseem still isn't in the HOF, I don't know why Cotto would be...Cotto is a solid fighter, but I don't really see anything special or distinctive about him. If he beats Floyd, my opinion will obviously change.

(Although he does have some good names on his record, while Naseem barely has any, so maybe he's more suitable for the HOF than I thought.)

I wouldn't say he's a first ballot entry, but fairly sure at the second or third time of asking. He's an important figure by today's definitions.

Yes, capturing titles in 3 weight divisions ( twice at welterweight ) beating Shane Mosley and being the victim in the Margarito scandal then coming back and beating him in the rematch as well as fighting two fighters who are considered to be not only the best in their division but pound for pound also is enough for me to class him as Hall of fame
