For probably the same reasons Muay Thai isn't. Both relatively new to the western sports world in any organised form (compared to amateur boxing), the emphasis in both sports is very much on the pros, the amateur ends of the sports aren't that well developed & all the various national bodies probably don't communicate too well. But I think the main reason is the queasiness of Olympic sponsors.

Ya its cool, but that dude seems like one of those americanized Jeremy Lin Asians and not so much asianized asians such as Shinya Aoki or Sakuraba

because its in a cage[as mma haters call it] and its too brutal. elbows and kicks to the head are not what the olympic movement want the public to see.
plus mma i kinda new.
