if mma utilize small gloves for punching, should boxing consider smaller gloves too?

Boxing is boxing . . . MMA is MMA . . . two different contact sports. The boxing organizations or commision will never change anything in boxing based on what MMA is doing.

i think that would really help the sport and i would love to see that implemented.

smaller gloves would do numbers for the sport imo.

The reason MMA can do this is because they have 3 rounds. 12 round fights with those small gloves is near to impossible. Maybe 90 years back, but in 2008, 12 grueling bloody rounds... no dude I don't think so.

Politics and commissions would never allow that.

I'm not even sure that spectacular KO's would occur that much more frequently. I just think everyone would be breaking their hands, and a stoppage on cuts would occur ten times more frequently than a genuine knockout.

And everybody (all the fighters from all weights) would be very carefull to not get hit. So the average thrown punches per round will be reduced to a quarter of that.

jezus i dont know what kind of gloves you guys are talking about but im just talking about 8oz and 10oz gloves... not this bullcrap we see today where hatton has to wear the same size gloves as wlad....

Vargas vs Hoya would have been fought with 8oz gloves, instead hoya chose the bigger 10oz gloves for the fight... now even that seems small to me compared to today.

i think all fights should be with 8oz gloves, if both fighters want and agree... 10oz can be used.

mma fighters can get away with using those small ass gloves because they dont hit with the force of boxers, partly cuz they cant put their whole bodies and legs into it like boxers can cuz most of the time they need to be careful of a takedown.

but 8oz boxing gloves are perfect.

no, dumb question. look at all the boxers that suffer from punch drunk and all those other diseases from blows 2 the head willie pep, freddie roach and (its cliche but hey) muhammed ali ALL THOSE GUYS, MMA is a young sport and its just a matter of time til the affect of 4oz glove beatdowns start 2 show (not 2 mention elbows and knees)

Is that true though? On the surface you may think thats logical...but it is the sustained constant beating to the head that I believe causes the long-term damage - not the one-punch early knockout.

Broken bones? MMA fighters wear very small gloves their bones certainly dont break.

I think there should be smaller gloves in boxing, not MMA small but 10oz is too big and ensures only one thing a more sustained beating to the head for longer periods of time and less knockouts.

Boxers are light years away from MMA fighters in the striking department. Smaller gloves mean more broken hands and more ring deaths. The size is fine. Think about your favorite fighter. Would you want him to be mentally ******ed after he ends his career? And oh yea shorter careers even. I want fighters to stay healthy too. They are human not actors that can just recover at the end of the day.

depending in what way im not so sure,

some mma fighters actually went on to become farily professional boxers like belfort and pulver. they are light years away from any decent journey men like ross purity or sam reese, but they still punch about as hard as a decent men.

some boxer and kick boxers are putting the mma gloves themselves like ramon dekkers, maurice smith, kitt cope, jeremy williams and dwayne ludwig

not to mention big bangers like tank abbott and chuck liddell
