If Mosley retires today, will he be remembered as an ATG??

You know I feel a bit sorry for Shane. He won't be remembered for being as great as he really is. When he was being BALLSY and taking on guys like Winky Wright, he could have just arrived at 147.

If Shane had done what Oscar and Floyd did, and after spending his time at 135, spent some time at 140, then went up to 147 and spending some time there before attempting to go to 154... then his record would look a lot more like Floyd's and Oscars. I have MAD respect for him for fighting Wright, and for rematching Forrest - and doing much better both times. But still, Mosley is always going to be the third best of his era (even though he beat Oscar, people will remember him ahead of Shane because of his accomplishments!).

Honestly I think some people are being generous with their ATG pronouncements of Shane. I think Shane IS an ATG, and boxing fans will remember him... but I'm not sure he's ever going to get any recognition as an ATG by the casual sports fan. By this I mean, I doubt you're going to see him on ESPN top 20 shows, like you will eventually see Oscar and Floyd for SURE. I honestly predict Shane's place in history more like someone like an Aaron Pryor or Alexis Arguello. We as boxing fans remember them as some of the best in their era, but people will always say ... Sugar Ray, Tommy Hearns, and Duran, ALWAYS... before they say Arguello or Pryor. They will ALWAYS be named first. And the same will happen to Shane, even though he COULD have had a record as good looking as Floyd's and Oscar's. Its a real shame!

ATG if we even have the balls to say DLH or Joe C are atg'S then Surely Mosely is one of the greats of this era! The man ducked no one and FOUGHT THE BEST.

He won titles in 3 weight class.

He's the best lightweight during his reign and the othert titlist avoided him.

He has beaten DLH at 147, was considered the P4P best.

Also won a title at 154 although he has a thin resume at that weight.

Best of all, he had the balls to face those guys who beat him(in fact toyed with him) in immediate rematches. And at an advance age, he's still considered one of the ten best fighters at 147 today.

    Not bad for an ATG.

Not an ATG, but a great fighter. Top 20 at 135, top 30 at 147, top 150 all time.

mmmmmmmmmm I would love to retort with a solid yes, and considering some of the other guysin the hall of fame .. yes. But as far as astounding ground breaking acheivements and record breaking pioneering in the game, he was good solid popular and i love him to bits, he was great and a fans fave.. Yes at a push , but not that much of a long reign of dominance type of way.. Just purely a very good boxer who beata few amazing fighters and then like most fiund someone who had his number.. i put him in my personal atg book.. but in historic standings he doesnt stand out that much overtime.. I hope you appreciate why i say this .. God bless.. He is a god in our eras though..
