Frazier made himself look good by beating contenders and winning the NYSAC/WBA/WBC titles before beating Ali.

No Calzaghe let Manfredo gain fame by losing to Sergio Mora, and then beat him to become more famous :yep That's exactly what happened and why Calzaghe took that fight right? :hi:

The 1970's ABC Superstar competition tried to answer who was the best athlete of that year.

Joe Frazier basically sank to the bottom of the swimming pool when soccer player Kyle Rote(?) won the overall competition. (and Rote would not want to fight Frazier).

Swimmers, decathalon track stars, skiers, soccer players, etc always do well because over their overall body training and types of games they play in.

Poker players & race car drivers do not finish real high as overall athletes usually.

Well then whoever is judging is extremely ignorant to the sport of boxing. So you can only punch with your hands, they think all you need to compete is hands???? If boxing doesn't require your full body to be conditioned no sport does :deal :deal :deal

That's because poker combines the speed and excitement of nursing home shuffleboard with the agility and hand-eye coordination of sleeping.

I wasn't alive for it but I have heard Mickey Mantle was as quick as lightning and as strong as an ox. I believe he hit one Home Run 560 feet. It's called the tape measure shot.
I'd add these two to Jordan, Ali, Gretzky, even Lance Armstrong.

Ever see Darryl Strawberry's homerun in Montreal? That ball hit the ceiling. That was a ridiculously long home run shot. I'm not sure how long it was measured at though.

Many argue that there was more competition with less teams. Before Russell came, the Celtics never won. After Russell retired, as plyaer and coach, the Celtics lay dormant for 6-7 years. As a rookie, playing less than a full season Russell makes them a champion. Year two he sprained his ankle severly and they lose. He loses only one more time in his career and they were huge underdogs vs. the Lakers in his last season. He truely revolutionized the game. So did Chamberlin, but Russell still won. I stand by my rating Russell #1.

Straw was an animal. He had such a sweet swing and pure power. Him and Dwight Gooden had First Ballot Hall Of Fame talent but was wasted with all the drugs.

I'm pretty sure it was Bob Seagram the pole vaulter who won the first Superstars and that was the year Frazier was trying to swim. Seagram actually beat Frazier in the weightlifting competition in that too.

A couple years later a race car driver actually won the Superstars. I think it was Jodie Sheckter. Don't think any poker players won!
