I was thinking, what if Muhammad Ali had become a trainer, he probably would have been one of the greatest of all times, he'd have had so much to teach would have been unreal!Thoughts......
(Dunno if this has been done before)

He might get frustrated if his trainees weren't as athletic as him, but I agree he'd have a lot of good things to teach.

I've heard he never really worked on his fundamentals though because of how good an athlete he was... if that's true then it might actually be detrimental as he wouldn't pass them on.

He's way too athletic to be a good trainer. He couldn't motivate a lesser fighter by guiding them because he would be able to do things that others can't. He can give them advice but I get the feeling that once things lose control he would be completely helpless.

Probably not. Why? Because Ali's greatness came from his natural ability, he did not train that hard in the early days, which hurt him later on. He did not train hard because he had such great natural ability and could get by, but when he got older it caught up with him. Most boxers have to start from the basics and work hard on it, to Ali everything just came natural, he could get by with making lots of mistakes which others could not do. He would have had to go back to boxing 101 to be a good trainer, but who's to say he would not have done such? One thing I do know, he would have taken care of all his fighters, he would never have cheated them, never have allowed them to get hurt if possible. He would have gone the extra mile for them all. Ali had a huge heart.

Reading his biog it seems as though he loves to help people, be part of boxing etc. Ok fitness and athleticism, he might not have been able to pass on, but his tactics (beating Foreman and Frasier in his older age) would be second to none.

True actually, his athleticism was a big part of his career, but a HW half as good as Ali would beat most in that division.

    Ali's personality, I doubt he'd make a great trainer.

Ali put on a bit of an act, yes it was his personality in some way, for the media, infront of the camera, but he loved helping out in charity and stuff. He was very inspirational, I think fighters would hang on every word Ali had to give.

I agree, no one has ever had the will to win like Ali. He could teach and give advice, but if it was someone else in there with Foreman in Zaire or Frazier in Quezon City getting pounded on all Ali could say is cover up, slip shots, or clinch. He wouldnt be able to teach heart, chin, and the will to survive its either in you or it isnt.

Not really, Ali was definitely the greatest in the ring but he might not be a good trainer. Not all great fighters can be great trainers.
