If Narvaez does beat Donaire...

    Well, after this month is over and if everything stays the same, he'll move up to 11th. I still have Chris John hanging in the top 10, because I like his resume, and him being an undefeated champ, highly skilled champion, but he is on the slide and he probably should start dropping. So, if I did drop John, then I would Donaire 10th.

    I don't jump the gun on fighters and anoint them. They have to back it up with quality wins. Everybody had an egg in their face after Zab Judah was exposed because he was already anointed as the greatest. (To his defense though, he did have a couple of decent wins and had a strap before getting stopped in 2) Then it was Devon Alexander (who Kellerman also said if he had to pick 1 fighter to be numero uno it would Alexander) and everybody ate that up. I like to wait and see. He's got a couple of great wins and solid win (and another solid win after Saturday rolls around) It's all about who you beat, not who people think you can beat.

    How about just a performance of a lifetime? :deal

    IMO that's what he needs; to be at his absolute best and hope that his style can puzzle and annoy Donaire while at the same time keep him from getting caught with anything deadly. Any scenario to be envisioned with his hands raised at the end pretty much calls for 12 rounds fraught with white-knuckle tension, with Narvaez just on his game as never before and taking extreme care.

    If he's his absolute best ever, he might well still lose - but I can at least picture it being enough to beat Donaire in my mind's eye (without Donaire needing to have chicken pox, or shingles, or his grandma just died on the 21st, or Rachel's on the rag, etc.)

    I enjoy lists. Yes, they're wildly subjective and all debatable but they give great ideas as to how well regarded anyone is at any given time. Or terrible ideas. :lol: But, they're fine starting places, anyway, and if you regard the person doing the rating, then they're very interesting. For instance, if it's Dan Raphael list :nonono:barf, but if it's your list or Dan's list, it's :think.

    I haven't seen Narvaez fight, but if donaire loses then its not a big deal. He is not fighting some bum or a buster douglas. Nobody with that kind of record(Narvaez) is a chump, and a two division champ and undefeated to top of that.

    Foreign champs get underrated so much because of the fact that no one has ever saw they fight in the US

    Oh yeah, I would definitely give D-Dan's list the time of day over Fat Dan's...it's just that for me personally, there isn't much incentive to submit to yet another time-sucking chore that's ultimately not really practical (except to go around showing people for the week/month it's relevant before needing to be updated again, and saying "Looky here at this one!! Let's niggle over number seven!"). A good chunk of my time is already frittered on boxing related trivialities already. There's only so many hours in the day. If you threw p4p lists into the mix, there would be no sleep. Or no...OK, I was going to put some really cool Byronic leisure activity but - sleep is really all that is left to me to be sacrificed. :!:

    Seeing it as a huge upset doesn't require viewing Narvaez as a bum or someone whose record is padded (it isn't), though.

    He's much smaller. He's a good deal older, as far as flies/bantams go. (and as far as just general ring age regardless of weight - having boxed well over twice as many rounds). Donaire is primed as hell and on a tear...and is the guy with all the promotional backing and media attention stateside. As DD said earlier, the safest thing for OAN is to score a knockout...and that might be the least plausible of all outcomes here. Donaire's as likely to lose by DQ as get knocked out.

    If Narvaez wins, he should be Fighter of the Year. The only real competition would be if Marquez also wins. Otherwise, if both Narvaez and Marquez loses, fighter of the year would go to Donaire, with the Super six winner, Pac and Rios (if he wins his last fight this year) as likely runner ups.
