If Nate Campbell beats Guzman, where does that put him in the list of ATGs?

He's the undisputed lightweight champion right now, so what happens if he beats an elite in Guzman? Does this make him ATG worthy at 135?

    WTF???

Guzman is not a factor when you talk about ATG.

Beating a high-level talent does nothing for a fighter's resume anymore?

Well, personally I leave the "all time great" stuff to the historians. One thing that Nate is striving for though is the following: To beat Guzman, and then fight the Pacquiao-D. Diaz winner for the WBC strap. I believe that would make Nate only the second fighter in history to simultaneously hold all 4 major belts (IBF, WBC, WBO, WBA). As far as I know, the only other fighter to ever do that was Bernard Hopkins.

Whether that would make him an ATG is really for everyone else to decide. I just know it would be one hell of an accomplishment.

yikes... guzman hasnt proven anything yet at 135. beating him at that division wont make it extra special.

    My sentiments exactly!
Even if Campbell were to beat Guzman, Pac, and JMM in succesion, he'd be beating fighters that are not proven as lightweights.

....it would increase his standing of course, but ATG????   :nut

that may be true, but something tells me that if Nate did in fact fight Guz, Pac, and JMM in succession, your picks for all those fights would be Guz, Pac, and JMM, in spite of the fact that they "are not proven as lightweights".

Hopefully, my theory will be able to be put to the test. At least as far as Guz and Pac are concerned. I doubt Nate could fight JMM immediately after Pac, because he would then have an IBF mandatory due, or a rematch clause would have to be honored with Pac.

It will add up to Campbell's resume alright but not enough to be a factor in the ATG level.

Guzman is a talented fighter but lacks the recognition at this point.

I would pick Guzman against Campbell, but it has more to do that I dont have a high regard for Campbell.

Depending on how he looks vs Guzman, if Campbell were to beat Guzman, how he does it may lead me to believe he could beat Pac, and even JMM, but I'd have to see him perform against Guzman first and JMM vs Casamayor if that comes off to make a better prediction.

.....in any regards, although I'd pick Guzman, that does'nt make Guzman a great or even good lightweight to then laughably say, "Campbell belongs with the ATG's at that weight class."

    ......Please!

The lightweight division is the most talented historically speaking. Hard to make it to the ATG status with the Diaz fight alone I agree but let's wait and see what happens next, we may have a huge upset.

By the way, Divac, what do you have against Campbell ?
