If Nate Campbell beats Guzman, where does that put him in the list of ATGs?

How so? It's actually pretty damn good, especially with all these 130lbers moving up.

    Nate Campbell
    Joel Casamayor
    Juan Diaz
    Manny Pacquiao
    Juan Manuel Marquez
    Joan Guzman

Add to this plenty of solid B level fighters (David Diaz, Katsidis, etc), I don't see how you can call the lightweight divison a 'joke'. The real jokes are divisions like 154 and 118.

You must be kidding ....right? Please tell me who are the big players at 135 at this moment.... don't tell me who is coming / jumping into that division.....just tell me who is great or good at the moment.

How great the boxers at 135 are at the present? Can you say that they are better than other decades/eras?

Pac, Marquez, Guzman are coming up and they might save this division at this time but I personaly doubt it, they are not 135 lbrs.

I know what you're saying....Pac and JMM are definitely great fighters.
Now being that they're great, and P4P at the very top, as a boxing fan you'd love to see them step up in weight and take on a real challenge against a skilled bigger fighter.

Chavez stepping up to a challenge and as an underdog beating Rosario!
Leonard stepping up to fight Hagler.

In losing efforts.....Arguello stepping up against a skilled maniacal Aaron Pryor.
.....or a prime streaking Felix Trinidad in the final of a middleweight tournament facing Bernard Hopkins.

Pac, JMM, and Guzman are headed to lightweight, but there biggest challenges are against eachother.

I'm absolutely feeling your point Flaco, it would be nice if these 130 pounders would step up a division and actually be matched in a fight where they were'nt the clear favorites fighting a bonafide capable lightweight.
You are right, there are'nt any such lightweights.

Sorry I didn't realise you didn't include Guzman/Marquez/Pacquiao etc in the current division. I can agree that it's pretty average if you take out all the big names that have moved up.

LOL! Where? No where! Nate is a good champion....he is a tough vet but he's done **** to be on the p4p list let alone the ultra ELITE ATG list.

Guzman is a high leve fighter but not a Great himself....in order to get on the ATG list you need longevitiy, Consistancy and a quality resume. At this point the only good fighter Nate has beaten is Juan who is also questionable in terms of how good he actually is. Guzman is on level with Juan Diaz presently which won't shoot his status in boxing through the roof so to speak....it will be anther good win.

Very good point. We will just have to wait and see with these coming fights. As far as Pac goes, he might jump up to 140 to fight Hatton. Hopefully if he wins or loses, he comes back down to 135. Presently, you have Juan Diaz even though he lost. We will find out what he has when his next fight materializes. Casamayor is the linear, but he could get old on his next fight. He is so unpredictable with his fights. This is not much presently, but these other fighters jumping up will make some noise.

Oh, Nate all time great, no. Please, he just finally won a title (s). Let him defend the titles and also give Juan a rematch if Juan looks good in his comeback fight.

Thanks bro...trust me, I hold you in the elite class of posters around here as well...even, as you said, if we dont see eye to eye all the time. Ive just been working like a madman lately...I stop in once a day to check things out, make a few posts, then head off into the sunset...too busy to be spending a ton of time on here anymore. But Im like Big Brother...Im always watching.

    :hey

Seriously tho. About Guzman...dont get me wrong, I think he is a fine fighter. He has very good movement and defense...but I just dont really see anything in his game that makes me feel he is ELITE! I think many fighters in and around his weight class beat him. In fact, if the Nate Campbell that fought Diaz shows...I just dont see the Galaxy Warrior losing. I think he is head and shoulders above Joan.

Again, as I said, dont get me wrong...Guzman is a VERY good fighter. But I think he does alot of things well...just nothing GREAT! Keep in mind, the best fighter (arguably) he fought to date was Soto and tho he won it by a WIDE margin, he looked less than ELITE in that one.

I dont know...I just dont see it. Maybe he will show me something vs Campbell...who knows.

He got tagged far too often against Soto. Far too often. He needs to tidy himself up if he fights Marquez or Pac that is for certain.

I think he could potentially be a p4p type fighter, although time is running out, and he needs to fights some real top level opponents and quickly.

He also didnt look elite against Barrios as well.

Like I said, I think he is a VERY good fighter...but I just dont consider him to be an elite (or even near elite for that matter at or around his weight class) talent.

I know some posters are in love with the guy...I just dont see it.
