No. He was never more than easy to hit, lighthitting clubfighter material.

I believe a fighter wearing tampered gloves would be real handful (pun intended). He would have a serious psychological boost. Unless he was fighting a Julian Jackson type puncher, he might walk through hell, in a “take 2 to land 1” style.

I refuse to say his name, out of respect for Panamanians and Lennox, so I’ll say “that scumbag” was the mastermind behind the worst act I’ve seen in boxing (James Butler’s post-fight sucker punch of Richard Grant is second worst).

I don't think there is anything in his record to suggest so,but we will obviously never know.

The Resto fight was his last.

Agree entirely where "that scumbag" is concerned. In a sport where shame is not uncommon, his making a living from Boxing after this is sickening.

As awful as it is what happened to him, he never would have been champion. Hearns, Duran, McCallum...all would have been horrific mismatches. Pursuing the IBF title would have been his only chance (Mark Medal, Carlos Santos) and I still wouldn't have picked him.

I recently watched a documentary where the director followed Resto around at length. You could easily see Resto was a broken man, full of shame. Watching that “scumbag” completely disarm Resto when his intent was to confront him about the event was shocking.

I read about that but haven't seen it. He wasn't allowed to train amateurs even while, a couple of years later that "Scumbag" got the gig of recycling Don King's retreads. Must have made a fortune.

In the documentary, he seemed to be working with Jeff Lacy. They also showed him watching Cotto-Zab from a bar near Madison Square Garden. I don’t think he’s allowed inside the arena during fights.
