This is the most accurate point written here so far. I have no doubt in my mind that Cuba would be a force to be respected in our sport if they were allowed to fight professionally. If Mexico and PR can do it, why wouldn't Cuba be able?

In regards to this point above, it's true, we are talking grown men fighting kids but on the other hand let's not take anything away from them since the entire situation it's not their fault. We can't judge the amount of boxers who are defectors because most of them have not done it.

imagine, just imagine if mexico and puerto rico invested as much time in the am's as cuba does.......most mexicans turn pro at 15-17 yrs old, cubans turn pro in their mid to late 20's......by that time, most mexican fighters are getting a bit war torn.........

Well we will never know, but all we can do is watch Rigo, gamboa, and Lara and use them as a gauge. Many Mexican fighters turn down amature and Olympic oppertunities to turn pro and start making money to help bring food to their table. Another thing to note is Boxing is not Mexicos main sport as Gamboa Express stated either, Soccer (futbol) is by far bigger than Boxing.

I glad to see Cubanos in the pros and wish'em the best.

Oh, sorry PR. I did'nt read your last reply to me! Well, you are right about many things. Sometimes it's very hard to " admit " that one of your fighters is actually " worse " than a fighter from another Country. This is a very good quality of yours, that you being Boricua you say it like it is, without letting your National pride get in the way, and I give you credit for that! You are a minority, just like poster " Zaryu " who also says it like it is... :good Two thumbs up for you guys!!! :good

So, I am trying to understand you better. You support us then, but also have some doubts about the Cubans and I understand. Let's just sit back and watch Gamboa, Rigo, Lara and the others do their thing... I am very sure that a couple of years from now they will have " re-established " Cuba in professional boxing like never before...

Take care my good friend... :good

Your words are very powerful, let's all follow our " Latin Boxers ", of course we will always follow more closely our " National boxers " but let's not forget that we are still " brothers "...

You now have a " good friend " here in Gamboa Express !!!

Lo mejor para ti y para tus boxeadores tambien... :good

Actually, " we will know "...

Because the Cubans are defecting in vast numbers like never before. The other day another group of " 9 Cubans defected ", and they already turned pro. It's just a matter of time when we will see Cuba back in the top of pro boxing, but of course it will not be the same until Castro finally gets the " heck out of there "... :good

the problem i see with this mass defections is their reasons.. are they defecting because they want to box at the highest leverl and become the best they can be or are they doing it just for the money and fame.. is a lot different coming from cuba to the US and finding fame and fortune really quick, as you know in cuba you can have a lot of fun but in the US is a lot different kind of fun.. so hopefully they wont get suck in by fame and fortune and the night life.. that's has been the biggest problem with puertorrican fighters, once they make it all hell break lose and they dont dedicate themselves like before, the only exception has been tito trinidad and now juanma seems just as dedicated...

    :hat

I am sure that they are doing it for both reasons. You are right, if they do it only for the money and fame then they will not be as successful but like I said earlier the Cubans love their Boxing. The problem starts when they begin to " taste the freedom temptations " and that is a major problem for Cuban boxers. Of the current Cubans I can say for sure that Gamboa, Rigo and Lara are really dedicated " so far ", but the others I simply don't know, except for Solis who already has shown us that McDonald's is more important for him than being World Champion... :bart

YOU ARE THE ONE WHO IS WRONG. What makes you think that the Cubans cannot equal or even better Puerto Rico or Mexico? :good
