If not Povetkin, who should Wilder fight next?

If Wilder wants to fight in January, and Povetkin is not ready who would be another opponent who might be available and would silence Wilder's critics at least for awhile?

I was thinking maybe Dereck Chisora who fought in September, he would be ok for January. Every other decent opponent I can think of is tied up and probably wouldn't be ready then. Including Fury, Klitschko, Helenius, Joshua, and Thompson. Am I missing someone?

I'm hearing that they're in talks with Botha, D. Williams, Ruddock, and Golota, alsohearing peeps about Leon Spinks coming out of retirement and putting his name out there as well!

Fight good American heavyweights. Fight Jennings, Thompson (assuming he beats Scott), Mansour, Cunningham, and Tarver. Then fight Fury. Many of these guys are 40+...if Wilder can't beat these vets he has no business claiming to be a champ.

I wouldn't mind actually seeing the Arreola-Wilder fight though Arreola is probably too shot to compete and would get blasted out early.

Jennings would be a good shout depending on his availability.

I am thinking they should pick some grandmother somewhere living on a fixed income. Have a talk with her so she understands not to fight back very hard.

A lot of those guys have fights lined up with opponents who are better than either of Wilders defenses

Thompson is facing Scott next, who is easily better than Molina and Duhaupas, and while he "lost" to Wilder on paper let's just the fight itself was a little suspect! Jennings is fighting Ortiz next who likewise is better than Molina, or Duhaupas... Fury is fighting Klitschko. I hope this puts into perspective how big of a joke Wilder is.

Takam is the best option I think. And he'll be good preparation for Povetkin fight style-wise.

Too risky, no way they would take that fight at this moment. Best option? Thompson. Experienced, tough, but his stamina & work rate are not impressive. TT can give Wilder much needed rounds.

I think It'd be an easy fight for Wilder. And Thompson is fighting on Ooctober 30th, so he probably won't be in top shape in early january.

I agree, he'd need a warm up fight before facing Takam. I hear Gerrie Coetzee is available ;)
