Oleg was slower in this fight, and heavier than normal. If Oleg had more speed, and stamina, perhaps he doesn't get caught. I think the fight was 3-2 in Peter's favor going into round 6, but Oleg was showing signs of changing things, and Peter's corner was getting nervous.

If Oleg were 2-3 years younger, this fight would have been longer, and perhaps different.

Oleg looked and fought like an old man. This was not the same version of Maskaev who knocked Rahman out.

Yes, Maskeav would probably have defeated Peter if he was a few years younger.

Well, he did manage to land some flush shots and rocked Peter pretty good as it was. A younger, fitter, quicker and more active fighting Maskaev may have gotten some more shots off, and perhaps could have avoided some of the bombs thrown by Peter. Also, if he were somehow able to get Samuel into the later rounds, Peter's poor conditioning may have become amplified against a better version of Maskaev.

My answer is yes, its possible, but not guaranteed.

    Hell no!

The only good fighter Oleg has ever beaten is Rahman, whom he happens to match-up very well against.

Oleg lost to T-Rex sanders 3 or 4 years ago.

It was clear from the first punch he threw that he had aged a lot since the last fight. Very slow and sluggish in his delivery. I knew he was getting ktfo from the first bell. (I picked Peter KO5 last week here). I don't know what Kellerman was talking about leading up to the ko when he kept insisting that Maskaev looked better than Peter. Maskaev should retire. He's only going to get hurt from hereon out.

Not really, I don't think he performed significantly better 2-3 years ago.
It would've lasted longer and been more competative, but he still would've lost. Maskaev has never been the quicker guy in there and, combined with his durability issues, would always have problems with a Peter type.

I think if the fight happened last year Oleg might have won. Peter is so completely overrated its a joke. He is slow, can't throw straight punches, has bad staminia, and his best punch is a foul.

Peter has a good chin and good power, but he can be outboxed easily. And quicker younger fight will school him easily.

oleg needs to hang it up. He'll get hurt out there if he goes at it again.

He would. Maskaev looked like an old man in that fight. He said he wants to fight on after the fight, but I do hope he gets out of this in tact. The man is basically my idol, and I was really happy for him when he won the title.

So? He looked like an old man when he fought Rahman, too.

And lest we forget, when he was younger and quicker, he was bested by veteran journeyman, Corey "T-Rex" Sanders.

The younger version of Oleg was less passive in the ring, he was willing to take more chances thus making it possible for Peter to TKO him sooner. Sorry but Oleg's a good dude like cooked food but its seems Peter would have TKO'd him either way.

It was the exact same version that faced Rahman...only Peter is better and faster than Rahman...Hence he knocked Maskeav out in 6. Maskeav has been knocked out plenty of times when he was much younger... He may have lasted another round or so but ultimately he would have still gotten knocked out just like when he fought Tua and got knock out. Maskeav also got knocked out by McCall, knocked out by Kirk Johnson, knocked out by Lance Whitaker and also knocked out by Corrie Sanders... Lets be realistic... Maskeav would have gotten knocked out reguardless...
