That said, Canelo only giving Smith 4-5 weeks to properly train also shows the ambush mentality.

I disagree.

Kovalev kind of sucks, especially as of late, and he was beating Canelo pretty clearly. It wasn't a schooling, but Kovalev had a pretty clear lead from what I saw. Then Canelo got a nice one punch KO out of the blue and rescued himself. Now, probably the judges would've given it to Canelo no matter what, but I'm sure the experience scared the **** out of Canelo and made him realize 175 is not at all safe for him.

If Kovalev could come within a hair's breadth of beating Canelo, I expect Beterbiev could do the same.
