Hey guys, it's been a week now since the chavez jr vs maravilla fight and we've heard the line ''well if he had started a bit earlier'' a thousand times by now and i can't help but think it's bull****. if you watch the 4'th round again, you'll see that chavez opens up quite a bit with some good hooks, which not only don't phase sergio at all, but simply leave chavez open to be countered and hit flush. if he had continued that strategy against the fresh and fast sergio, chavez would have been bombarded with more left hands and possibly tko'd due to the damage. chavez should realize he knocked down sergio due to exhaustion before he goes into a rematch thinking if he goes balls to wall from round 1 he'll win. he'll take an even badder beating as martinez will be more judicious and counter his aggression all night. thoughts?
atsch really dude? Are you sure it wasnt a slip? I dont understand why martinez fans have to feel butthurt and try to take all credit away from chavez. He almost got sergio out there , no matter what fairy tale you wanna invent that's what happened. As for the rest of the fight, I dont know why Chavez wouldnt let his hands go, he either took a benadryl before the fight or he just had no confidence to let his hands go. Either way, Martinez was there for the taking and when Chavez did throw, he landed some good shots - he just wasn't active enough. Part of that could be lack of experience also, and maybe he just isnt that good. Give the kid some credit though , and btw Martinez was never that good to begin with and I thought he was supposed to blow this kid out and knock him out. What happened to that plan.
yeh, my point was that martinez got hit in the fourth with the same shots he got hit in the 12'th. the difference was that in the 4'th he was fresh and in the 12'th he was exhausted, which si why he got stunned.
If he tried to match Sergio's pace he would have gassed, left himself completely defenseless and stopped. I think he was hoping to land one good shot and/or make a final stand in the last round. He didn't throw many punches overall in the bout and STILL punched himself out in that 12th round flurry. He seriously needs to move up in weight, whether he does well or not at SMW is debatable but it's obvious that shrinking himself is catching up to him if he can't even go hard for 12 anymore. Remember he was getting fatigued and cramped up in the Lee fight. Bottom line is unless Julio knocked Sergio completely unconscious he would have lost no matter what strategy he used.
Martinez fans still come to terms that his perfect match was ruined, and his victory didnt mean ****, cause he got put down twice in the 12 and saved by the bell
Sergio didn't allow him to start earlier, Chavez landed a shot due to Martinez tiring from schooling him for 11 rounds, and even at that stage he recovered and resumed domination til the final bell.
Still sexy and still king. 190 lb cheater Chavez was clowned for most of the fight. I am sure once he goes to smw, he will have no problems though against the likes of ward and froch.
