I made a thread like this last week with the same thought as this TS. Many people said something ridiculous.

If Chavez Jr. started fast in early rounds, would Martinez let Chavez Jr. catch him easily? All we could see in that fight was Chavez could not connect his punches except in round 12.

chavez was sporatically landing signifigant punches throughout the second half of the fight.did you happen to see the cut on sm's left eye that required 8 stitches.

that didnt happen in the 12th round?

what happened in the 12th round was the result of what happened in the previous 11.

The about Martinez is that he gives awakard angles. He dose not really expose any scoring arears. It's not that his oppoents can't get shots off. It's that because they see they can't score or it will be hard to do so they don't throw punches. Now factor in the fact that he's in top shape. A fast pace from the first round may not be the best idea.
I do think Chavez waited too long, but I don't think he should have started from the first round.

    1. Sergio was landing body shots as early as round 2. These shots slowed Jr down
    2. Sergio has faster hands which means he gets in more punches than Jr
    3. Each time Jr sets up his attack, Sergio moves. This makes it very difficult for Jr to land shots
    4. In the early rds Sergio was eating clean, hard shots and shook them off easily
    5. Once Sergio touches the ropes he doesn't stay there long like Andy Lee did

With these 5 things in mind, there is no way to get me to believe Chavez would have made a difference if he started earlier. Watch what Sergio did to Jr at the end of round 4. This is what will continuously happen to Jr if he opens up aggressively.

Chavez fans can hope Sergio gets injured or takes Jr very lightly. That's really your only chance at beating Martinez in a rematch.

This is the new bull**** on the forum. Before that was the lucky punch of Garcia against Khan.

Nice brake up. I would add that even on the ropes Sergio defense is a lot better than Lee's and I would say that he was often getting the better out of Jr.

i didn't see any resumption of domination in the last few seconds of the fight. it was martinez trying to exchange in a very dangerous situation where he wad supposed to box of the backfoot or clinch.

So you think Chavez wasn't tired and at full stregth after getting his ass beat for 11 rounds:lol:

Sergio taking Jr lighly is the only way he could win, did you not see a uninspired Chavez who trains in his living room, sleep well into the day, blow trees, and walk around the house in his underwear eating giant bowls of cereal, damn near KO the #3 p4p fighter when he didn't really start trying, and giving it his all til the end. Imagine Chavez with drive and motivation, Serg, should be embarrassed a still relatively green champ had him rolling on the fall, a few punches away from losing it all

The truth is there were no winners in that fight, Martinez had has masterpiece ruined, taking the air out of a potential Floyd match, and all the hype he would of got if he aint get his china smashed, And Chavez many wil feel he simply didnt try until the very end when he came to the realization that he came this far to simply let Martinez a fighter who he had very little problems touching according to compubox waltz and dance to a easy win. He will deal with the shame of this loss hard because he has to not only see his pops everyday but also live in his shadow, he will :rasta recover and come back better than ever, even in a L he exposed Serg

If JCC leaves freddy and develops simply a half ass jab he will have all the tools neccesary to KO Serg

well said. but chavez coiuldve come in with the mentality of getting ko'd and opened up sooner.

sm was visibly tired in the later stages of the fight from the constant pressure of chavez.

only the ignorant here believe that what happened in the 12th round was purely luck and not an accumulation of what happened in the previous 11 rounds.

chavez was landing both signifigant body and head shots throughout the second part of the fight.

    he just didnt land enough.

Jr. has no chance at a rematch. None. (unless its in like 4 years)

Martinez even went Morales on Jr's ass in the 12th and Jr still couldn't put him out

disagree. chavez sr. never had a jab and neither will jr. they are body punchers with great chins.

freddie and sr. probably acknolewdge that jr. will never have a jab that wont be countered by an overhand right of a champion-level opponent so its not worth their time to develop it.
