The reason why the boxing fans dont see the fights they want is because there are four different world titles if there was only 1 no fighter would ever duck another fighter as they would want to prove they are the best.

thats how it was done back in the day , everyone blames promoters for not making the fights happen but its down to the fighters and boxing comitees as well,

Floyd and manny would have battled it out a couple of years ago if there was just one world title per division,

The Klitschko brothers both being world champs in the same division is a joke and with them never going to fight eachother to find out who the best is whats the point. if there was only 1 world title you can bet your ass they would have smashed **** out of eachother by now,

i really feel this is killing the sport

perhaps just two bodies would be ok, because it would allow for exciting unification fights.

and perhaps one minor body like the wbo, a kind of wooden spoon title.

  3. Did you copy and paste this from a post you made 10 years ago?

There are about 37 world titles per division now. I wish there were only 4, them were the days.

It would certainly benefit the sport in my eyes. It would also be easier for fighters to get credit with weight division titles as they would have to win the lineal title to actually be considered the champion at the weight. This may be hard to do with enough support it wouldn't be impossible, but I just can't see it happening. It would also force the best to fight the best: maybe Vitali wouldn't want to be the no.1 contender for the rest of his boxing career and actually consider fighting Wlad. These would be the current champs of the division if there was just one title Per weight class

    Heavyweight - Wlad
    Cruiserweight - Hernandez
    Light-Heavyweight - Dawson
    Super-Middleweight - Ward
    Middleweight - Martinez
    Light-Middleweight - Mayweather
    Welterweight - Pac/Bradley
    Light-Welterweight - Garcia
    Lightweight - DeMarco
    Super-Featherweight - Broner/Uchiyama
    Featherweight - Gamboa
    Super-Bantamweight - Nishioka
    Bantamweight - Moreno
    Super-Flyweight - Kokietgym
    Flyweight - Viloria
    Light-Flyweight - Gonzalez
    Strawweight - Ioka/Joyi

Having some rich billionaire buy the WBC,WBA,WBO, IBF....merge them into 2 titles then create-

    210 PLUS - Heavyweight

    210 - Cruiserweight

    175 - Light-Heavy

    160 - Middleweight

    147 - Welterweight

    135 - Lightweight

    126 - Featherweight

Easy then boxing is in a real strong postion we would really see who the real fighters are as there are only 7 weights.

I like unification fights and being undisputed is a nice carrot to stay hungry.

I honestly cant think of a quick fix for this. Hell, I dont even think this can or will ever be fixed. Many time a casual fan asks me, who is the champ? There are times that I dont really know what or who to say.

There's always been at least two recognized titles since the 1920s, although back then they USUALLY had the same champ.

The one good thing about this whole alphabet crap is that it gives lesser known, high-risk/low-reward fighters more of a marketing tool to have a belt.

I'm sure it helped HBO promote fights (put up the money) for "unification" bouts like Mosley-Forrest and Mosley-Wright.
