Ex lightweight king Carlos Ortiz was beaten by Ken Buchanan in 1972 , but by then Carlos was 36 years old. If they had met in their primes , over 15rds, what would the result have been ?
Ortiz was shot to **** in their fight but Buchanan's too classy. I think he would take it on points in a very, very close fight
It was interesting to note in the first few rounds how Carlos's Timing was cancelling out Buchanan's speed and Carlos was able to maneuver Ken against the ropes, of course he couldnt maintain it, not at that stage of his career, Ken would certainly have his moments, but Carlos at his best was not a wild swinger who Ken could exploit, his timing was exquisite and i think that is the seperator, Ken was stubbon and a stayer, but Carlos would keep that little bit of daylight between them, it may be that every time Ken tries to bully Carlos off beam, like he was able to do with others, primarily "boxers" like Laguna, his Ace would get Trumped by the patient Carlos, Ken could be Captain Fantastic on Occassion - but here he is up against a true General . Carlos on points for Me. Probably one of the few who could Map and Time the Will-o-the Wisp Buchanan
I am a Big Buchanan fan loved his wins vs Laguna, he was tough and gritty. Ortiz was a great so I think it would be close but think Ken edges him
I agree with the all of the above. Much as I love Ken I think Carlos would have had just a little bit too much for him specially over a series.
Ortiz was said to have a **** as large and sturdy as an ancient oak, though of course by the time he fought Buchanan it was a flaccid shell of it's former majesty. Buchanan had a great jab and you know what they say about jabbers... i can imagine he could go at it all night with piston like consistency, but Ortiz is a bit too thick here for him i'd say.Once he gets inside, Buchanan's mobility will be severely hampered.
A pushing 31 years old Ortiz took a U Dec off of Laguna thereby twice avenging the split dec he lost to him when he hadnt trained.[he was a notorious partier].he beats Kenny.
