weightclasses? Has this been ever done before, such a shame he didnt pick up anything at bantamweight real quicklly and could of made it 5.
No, becuase beating a titlist isn't the same as beating the recognized champ. Not saying it ain't a feat, because that is still incredible, but it's more akin to winning belts in more then one weight class. Again, it's still bad ass.
Henry Armstrong has 3 when many people believed he should've had four as he had a controversial draw against the NYSAC MW champion, the Pinoy Ceferino Garcia
Alright...then as I said...it's an incredible feat. I hope Pac does it because it will be something! Something that just doesn't happen much. But today in boxing, winning title in multiple divisions does not carry the weight it used to. It's more like Jones when he won the HW belt from Ruiz. Was nice, but would have been MUCH better had he beat the World HW Champ (Lennox) at the time, rather a belt holder. I mean, what JOnes did was great, and will probably not be done again for a LONG time, but it's more Ruiz that makes it lose it's lustre. Still an amazing feat.:good
I agree, but weight jumping holds a more higher degree in boxing today than dominating one division. Just look at Hopkins his resume didnt become comparable to Roy until after he left the middleweight division. Also everyone is talking about Paul Williams but no one is talking about Chad Dawson. Holding 1 division down is more difficult than winning a piece of 2 or 3 divisions and less glory and fame than the latter. However guys like Roy, Pacman and Armstrong is the exception because it goes beyond than just 3 weight division.
Every title belt has been hard-earned. Titles were not picked up from nowhere. Sometimes one title-holder could not fight another title-holder because of too much boxing politics (Im not saying NABF/OPBF/etc belt, but WBA/WBC/WBO/IBF etc belts). And I agree, it is an amazing feat, and to my knowledge no one still got that feat but (maybe) pac.
Yeah, I do agree. I may not recognize every belt holder as a world champ, but yeah, they are hard earned.
First I would like to say that we have not had the oringinal 8 since the 1800, and not the modern age of boxing. As early as the 1910's we have had superfeathers, in the 40's jr welterweight was added...So really its the original 10. Those being Heavyweight Light Heavy Middle Welter Jr Welter x Light x super Feather x Feather x Bantam Flyweight x....So with that being said Pac has actaully already won four title in the oringinal weights(10) Its really only been in recent decades that so many weight have been add. Another thing to consider is fighters today fight at what my father use to call false weights. Meaning that a fighter has so long to get ready for a fight that it allows them to fight as weights they would have never been able to make in the old days. What does that mean??? It means that a 135 pound 19 year old Pac would have never fought at 112, he would have not had the time to cut the weight nor would have have been able to live with his weight that low. So by fighting at false weights it allows much bigger fighters to move up and down in weight with much more ease then in the old days. Just think Pac would really only have to put on 10 pounds between the ages of 19 and 30 to be able to fight comfortable at 140. Which is the reason that he seems to be stronger and more stable as he moved up in weight, he isnt weakened by making such low weights.
the david diaz light weight belt was a bit cheap didnt rate him but was who arum told him to fight but that said will be amazing if he beats cotto ...rather 147 but hey he beat dopey hatton legit at 140 so all good really i just wish hatton fought like that against kostya cause no way he would have beat him fighting in that macho style like pac couldnt possible win
Cotto is slightly higher than Ruiz in stature though isnt he? lol. Besides, who is the lineal champ anyways, is it Mosley or Cotto? I think Mosley since Mago beat Cotto & Mosley beat Margo but its all timing of fights, because Cotto beat Mosley too.
