you must take his post as whole and not just crop a single sentence. what he's saying is, if pac happens to beat floyd, people will assume that he is not that great at all in hindsight. just like people now are saying hatton was overrated because pac stopped him inside 2.

:good Morales had took part in enough wars to justify a sudden decline in his performances. It's not only happened to Erik, other fighters have had one particular fight and never been the same again. Meldrick Taylor for one.

Morales came off two back to back wars with Barrera and Pacquiao, two of the toughest and most skilled fighters in the world at the time. He went the distance with both of them, taking huge shots throughout the duration. It's hardly a surprise that there would be an inevitable decline. In fact, Morales wasn't the same fighter he was even when he fought MAB the third time. It was gradual.

Floyd Mayweather has had a far superior career to that of Ricky Hatton, and has already proved to the boxing public that he is a worthy challenge to Manny Pacquiao's throne as the best fighter in the sport today. In the event that he does lose to Manny, and he would retire, Manny would get even more respect for being the only man to ever have defeated Mayweather, a 5 weight world champion.

I compare this to the situation with Barrera and Hamed. Naseem is not in Mayweather's league, and even despite him getting exposed when he stepped up in class, this is still regaeded by many as Marco's greatest victory.

Mayweather would be a HUGE scalp.

even in the first fight, if Pac had already been adjusted to the new weight and had not fought 7 rounds with a cut above his eye, odds are he would have won the fight. Those kind of things make a difference.

I won't go as far to say as "odds are he would have won", but Manny would have been a lot better off. It goes without saying.

alot better off in a fight that he lost by 2 points on all scorecards. If he wins just 1 more round, its a draw.

Erik gave away the last round, and nobody has ever disputed the decision in that fight from my experience. Morales was a clear winner.

you can't just assume that Morales would have won that round if he had not given it away. It was a clear, 2 point decision. Which means that if Pac wins one more round, its a clear draw.

And like you said, Manny would have been a lot better off.

Absolutely. Those cuts change fights, I'd just be reluctant to say Pacquiao would have won without it. That's all.

Morales had Pacquiao under control in that 1st fight, cut or no cut, Id give Pac more credit than to suggest that he let a cut bother him SO much that it changed a winning performance into a losing one, he`s stronger mentally than that for sure.

its not about being mentally strong. Moving up in weight and getting a cut above the eye are physical disdvantages. You can be as mentally strong as anyone in history, but if you have blood pouring into your eye and are dealing with a bigger man, you are not at your absolute best. The fact that still made it such a war and that he took a rematch several months later and knocked Morales out shows his mental strength.
