IF Pac can do it, is it better than RJJ beating Ruiz? A historic achievement? Or not?

Ruiz won the title again after losing to jones and defended it against some top ranked heavies. He also drew and beat a not quite as past it holyfield. I'm not saying hes a world beater but it was still a huge achievment especially considering we now know how fragile Roy's chin is. Having said that I think if Manny wins it surpasses all achievments with the exception of Duran-Barkley. The blade had just blitzed the only man to deliver a clean 10 count ko to Duran. Plus Duran was a short pudgy, former lightweight who was much older and more past it than pacquiao is now. Barkley was a tall solid middleweight with good power and a solid chin. If Duran had been a little younger and closer to the kind of shape Manny is in now then it would've downplayed his accomplishment, but he wasn't either of those things.

Yes. ODH is a Hall of famer who is clearly the most recognized boxer in America and perhaps even the world.

John Ruiz sucks and always has.

    Pac's accomplishment > RJJ's accomplishment

Yeah, ****in right. Oscar hasn't won a big fight since when? He doesn't have a title, all he has is a name. Manny isn't taking this just to be brave. Its all about the Benjimans!

Duran has also previously had 10 fights at MW, 8 fights at JMW. Pac on the other hand has had 1 fight at LW fighting a former MW.

That was a great fight by Duran but moreso for the comeback rather than the weight issue. By that time, pudgy or not, he was a fully pledged MW so size was not as big an issue.

I agree, he was more established but duran was still pushing 40 at that time and had to have had at leat 30 more fights than manny. Plus I don't think Duran was ever a full fledged middleweight as Manny will never be a full fledged welterweight. Duran also wasn't much taller than Pacquaio, so the size difference was even bigger facing Barkley. I think a better comparison would be Manny beating someone like Paul Williams.

What a stupid idiot. Where did I say that RJJ was more of an underdog than Pac? Where?? Nowhere? Correct.

If you don't think that a former light-middleweight (154lbs) winning one of the major heavyweight titles, and being the 1st middleweight world champion in over a century to win a heavyweight title, wasn't a historic achievement, you must have been living in a closet for 2003, as believe me, it was big news.

The point of this thread is to ask whether the size issue and the fact this is p4p#1 v most famous active fighter makes this as significant and historic an achievement?

You clearly don't understand this issue so never mind.
