If Pac loses to this version of Floyd, it will taint his legacy more than Prime Floyd

So I was debating the Winner/Loser scenario with some people I talk to. Barbershop type talk.

When one fighters is past his peak when another is not. When both are past their best. And so on. How is it judged...because the "What ifs" tend to creep in.

Pac Vs. May: Floyd from 130-140 vs. any version of Pac...I would say Floyd hands down is the favorite. And Pac losing to this version of Floyd wouldn't be that big deal. Your losing to a once in a generation type fighter with that type of overall ability: Mentally, Physically, and Technically...way above the field (except when going into a fight injured :D).

But this version, a fighter that is 35, declined athletically, which forces him to fight more flat-footed and aggressive...and doesn't throw as much and has to make every punch count and hit...might hurt Pac's legacy more if he loses.
Why? Because when your athletic ability is declined...say like Roy or Ali...you then have to rely on pure boxing skills and I.Q.
And if you lose to this version of the fighter, your boxing ability from a "technical" stand-point, as well as your I.Q/Ring Generalship...is now in question.

I'm not sure I agree completely but one person was spouting off that Floyd no longer has all his chess pieces on the board and has to play the game more carefully. He was talking fast and in a heavy accent so whatever the guy was talking about  even though I get the idea he was trying to make. He doesn't have his Queen, Rook, etc....

So anyway, the point was still that he thought, and I agreed, that if Pac lost it would be really bad for his legacy because he would be beat by not athleticism, but by Ring Generalship: I.Q. and technical ability. And given he has debatable/close fights with JMM, even an older JMM....it has to knock Pac down the list a lot as far as him matching wits with others of this ilk.

Now if Floyd loses...I think we all agreed that it is less likely most would talk about where Floyd was in his career and where he was at his best and so on. Once your hated and people are rooting against you or even expect you to win...where you are now is all that matters to most.

    too long!

Underline the "IF" and erase around 300 words and it would sum it up!

Ain't happening. PEDS, 40 million, etc.

You have to take into account that Pac is also a bit past it, fighting in a style that is more taxing. So that takes a bit of polish off that argument.

  6. why does floyd have to be losing certain elements to his game, or physical abilities, just because hes fighting a bit differently now?

sure floyd isnt in his physical prime...the floyd that fought gatti(i mean the physical prime floyd) isnt walking through the door again....but floyd at 34/35 is still probably physically better than most in their primes

people told floyd he wouldnt stand in front of shane and fight him......so he did....and then people wanted to talk about his legs.....

he had a 165 lb southpaw trying to push him around and into the ropes.....trying to rough him up.....and he was throwing combos....making dude miss and hitting him accurately and dominating punch stats.....

people forget how much he was getting killed for not knocking out jmm and letting his hands go more.....i think hes just more comfortable and confident these days in there with big boys....

The argument for which ever guy loses will be that he was past his best. It will open up the debate again as to who's to blame it took too long to happen.

  8. ive often read so many times "just because pac had a tough time with jmm and floyd didnt doesnt mean anything...styles make fights".....

it does mean something....and if floyd had never fought jmm wed probably have seen the fight by now....and if pac blew jmm out wed prob be seeing in may

after pac struggled arum wouldnt even talk floyd and started talking jmm rematch....the 4th time...when are there 4 fights between 2 guys where 1 guy hasnt even won one of them??? they made jmm wait years for other rematches and all of the sudden they were interested in an immediate rematch? lol

the same people that defend pac using the styles makes fights argument are the same guys who point out "ya but pac blew oscar and hatton in way better fashion than floyd did" when defending pac...not taking into account floyd style and hows hes not a big puncher

Funny the **** they come up with after he once again fails to beat JMM convincingly. Before the fight, Manny, Roach and Ariza all boasted about how prepared he was and how much he'd improved since the last JMM fight and how he was going to knock JMM out. :deal

  10. the best was watching the last episode of "on freddie roach"....pac looks at freddie and says he had cramps....and tries to blame them for his performance....roach knows hes full of ****...but looks back at him and says "well we gotta find somebody who can take care of that for us"....knowing damn well pac is full of ****

Of course he knew Manny was full of ****. He's been around him long enough to know that Manny always has an excuse for a shitty performance be it leg cramps, socks, gloves, blood test "weakened his arm", or whatever the **** else he can come up with. :yep

Pacman is the one who has fought the best and been in wars. This version of Floyd? Floyd cannot be that diminished? He never has been in a real hard fought war like Pacman or most greats.
