Let me give you a scuccinct classes of drugs and how they work :

EPO - also known as erythropoeitin ( erythro - red blood cells ) + (poeitin - prodcution or produce) - simply is a protein produced by kidney in response to blood loss, and as response , increases production of red blood cells by the bone marrow.

Synthetic EPO has been produced as therapy for patients needing increased RBC like chroinic renal failure patients, etc.

Benefits - more red blood cell, more oxygen carrying capacity

disadvantage - increased RBC increases blood viscosity or thickness or stickiness, increasing risk for blood clots or embolism, exacerbated or increased risk in sports because of dehydration.

Onset of action - studies showed injection of EPO demonstrates 1 percentage point increas in hematocrit after 2 weeks of injection.

Testing - Definitive (meaning sure or absolute tests) - Urine testing
Screening test - hematocrit to show that increase in red blood cell.


HGH - human growth hormone

Mechanism of action in athletics is unknown. It has not been shown to increase muscle mass, strength in a study conducted in Australia. The only type of athletes that benefit apparently from it are sprint athletes, with a gain which would convert probably a silver medalist 100 meter runner to a gold medalist, but not those that are in the lower rung atletes.

Testing - Blood

Side note - there is only one athlete who tested positive for this, and it is not even an olympian but rather a rugby player. Since 2004 (if I remeber it right) when they first introduced HGH, not a single athlete tested positive for it using the WADA standard protocol. in Beijing Olympics, they apparently tested more than 500 athletes and not one tested positive for it. That is how effective USADA testing for HGH. You might as well forget about getting it.

Steroids - a derivative of cholesterol. Basically re-engineered or synthetic analogue of naturally existing hormone of the body

Effect - the anabolic steroids increases muscle mass, strength, increases repair time. Anabolic steroid mimic the effect of naturally occurring hormones of the body. But as with all body processes, it takes time to build up muscle mass and strength, certainly not within a week or two.

So basically, a week or 2 of window time is enough but as a safeguard, even a daily urine test, which may sound excessive but not invasive, would ensure everybody tows the line.

The PEDS issue is all smokescreen.

If he is tested negative, then Floyd would be really scared because he is fighting a natural fighter, who must be terribly athletically gifted to be pummeling fighters who are bigger than him.

Pac failing a drug test nullifies all of his achievements and puts Floyd back on top as P4P #1. All this without Floyd taking a single punch from Pac. This is Floyd's biggest fantasy and is much easier than him beating a Pac that just tested clean. He can still make millions fighting other fighters which he sees as guaranteed wins. Now that Pac is willing to test, Floyd is on "vacation" looking for the "urge".

insurance in case the old and shot, cherry picked fighter they drained, then paid to fix the fight all of a sudden decides that :

a. He is not old anymore
b. He is not actually shot
c. screw the fix fight
